A Utah teenager plunged hundreds of feet to his death when he stopped to take photos with buddies at a scenic overlook and fell over the edge, according to officials.

Thrill-seeking 19-year-old Jonathan Fielding died Saturday in what authorities believe was an accident while he was hiking near Moonscape Overlook, KUTV reported.

Fielding, an avid photographer, and two friends went to take pics near the edge of a cliff when Fielding lost his footing on shaky ground and went over the canyon edge as he attempted to find a better vantage point, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, per the station, and family said.

Fielding recently moved to the Beehive State from Missouri where he began a new job.

“He found an enormous group of friends and a group of support,” family friend Connor Parry told the outlet. “He was a special kid, and it’s important to keep that energy and that smile he brought to every conversation.”

As he was falling he was thinking…”I love doing this. Well, not this part.”

And two seconds later, he was fine.

Is this Taylor Swift sitting precariously on a Chrysler Tower gargyole? I hope her team wins, whoever they are. It's not so bad either way Taylor!

“I shouldn’t make too much fun of this kid who was enjoying the great outdoors while the majority of young people his age are sitting in front of video games developing diabetes and morbid obesity”

I agree about not making fun of him but to say he’s any different than a gamer isn’t true. He’s just like them only he takes his addiction to technology along with him. None of them are capable of doing anything without a phone or gaming device.

Risk-takers are the people who when they win, they bring greatness to the world. Unfortunately, sometimes they lose.

Or as Gloria said in White Men Can’t Jump: “Sometimes when you win, you really lose. And sometimes when you lose, you really win. And sometimes when you win or lose, you actually tie. And sometimes when you tie, you actually win or lose. Winning and losing is all one big organic globule from which one extracts what one needs.”

At least if you are going to take a risk, make sure there’s some upside to it.

And when they lose, they bring laughter and ridicule on FR threads.

(What is wrong with us? I include myself?)

At least if you are going to take a risk, make sure there’s some upside to it.

There's an incredible upside in the confidence one develops by physically challenging themselves and facing their fears.

Of course, sometimes they die.

Does the fact that he was doing something he loved make his death more virtuous or something?

More like he died photographing the person he loved most. The one thing for which I hold the greatest contempt is this sick, narcissistic culture. The extreme self-centeredness that drives it is at the heart of all of our societal problems. Leftism/“progressivism” is just selfishness turned into politics.

“Self esteem” and “everyone gets a trophy” have extracted a terrible cost.

In this case, I think the guy was just a narcissist who wanted to impress the chicks.
