Pusser himself was killed in a car wreck a few years after has wife's death. I suspect another remake of the movie is in the works.

there was never an autopsy performed on Pauline Pusser’s body.
Why? Is TBI bored or lacking meaningful work to do? Isn’t this stupid and unnecessary?
Exhumation is a drastic step. My guess is that the original autopsy leaves something to be desired and the authorities now have a highly specific claim that a precise bullet trajectory or bullet fragments might confirm.
The murder was always attributed to the Dixie Mob. Slick Willie’s mother and uncle supposedly had connections to the Dixie Mob through its affiliates in Little Rock.

My dad took my brothers and me to see Walking Tall when it came out. I was the youngest at 13. This was his kind of movie, gritty and intense.

Possibly a rifle that someone claimed was used turned up and someone figured to sell it and make some bucks from has been found and word got around. It is an open murder case and would be good PR if they could close the case and have the gun as well.
It is rumored that Pusser took matters into his own hands and hunted down and executed his wife’s killers, one by one.
Maybe they want to determine if she was dead prior to the shooting.

If any new info leads to the murderer and he was still alive, wouldn’t he just be an elderly man with poor memory now and not be prosecuted?
Next time Pusser could be played by Lucy Liu or Michaela Jaé Rodriguez.
