Your mention of Taiwan reminds me of a beautiful song I love to play……. SUO GAN. It’s a traditional Welsh lullaby that was the theme song of the movie “Empire Of The Sun” which takes place during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan during World War II. It’s sung by a young British boy (played by Christian Bale) who is interned in the prison camp along with the British soldiers. This scene from the movie always makes me cry …. Taiwan was actually a Japanese colony going back to 1895. Japan build a lot of Taiwanese infrastructure. The current government and a lot of the people are transplants from the mainland from 1948.
