Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman isn't exactly extending a warm embrace to the Oakland Athletics, who plan to build a $1.5 billion stadium in her city.
In fact, Goodman said the team's stadium plan "does not make sense" and that A's ownership should go back to the drawing board and pitch a new plan in the Bay Area.
"I personally think [the A's have] got to figure out a way to stay in Oakland to make their dream come true," Goodman told the Front Office Sports Today podcast, which was released Tuesday.

The mayor won’t be there forever. The smart money is that vegas is making a major move on sports and this is part of it.
The Trop is scheduled to be demolished. Isn’t that where the stadium will be.
lastly, Sacramento.
Do people know that Lynyrd Skynyrd held a massive concert in Oakland in 1977?
Have you seen the people who attended the concert?
Just goes to show you how fast that city and state has fallen.
The only downside is that we'll see a major scandal soon (think of an athlete like Pete Rose betting on baseball games) so that will destroy the integrity of the sporting world as we know it.
No one is going to want to buy a ticket to watch entertainment-based performance theater, featuring storyline-driven, scripted, and partially choreographed matches.
We already have that in WWE.
I know, right....when’s the last time you saw the Stars and Bars in Oakland?
That’s true, there is also this.
Plans to put $380 million of public financing toward the Las Vegas project also are being challenged legally.
Personally I think there should be no public funding of pro sports facilities.
All that is going on with public funding for stadiums is subsidizing of exorbitant salaries of pro ball players.
Make the pro team owners pay for their stadiums.
This funding usually comes from the state which means that citizens of the whole state paying for the supposed increased revenue of the city in which the stadiums are located.
In my opinion it is a con job on the tax payer.
I agree with the mayor, let them stay where they are. Vegas is doing fine with casinos.
I don’t remember the particulars, but I recall the Giants have some sort of geographical veto powers that would prevent the As moving to a more civilized city in the east bay, such as Fremont
Bakersfield could use a major league team. Why not go there? They could build the ballpark inside the nearby Tehachapi Loop.

Yes, she is his wife.
Oscar has a steakhouse downtown atop the Plaza hotel. It’s called Oscar’s. Pretty good meal. Walking distance to the Mob Museum. It’s located in the restaurant featured in Casino where the two women get a better table because she’s A e’s wife, and where DeNiro and Stone have a meal after her return from LA.
Oscar Goodman played himself in that movie too, fwiw.
Their former stadium is right where the restaurants are closing due to crime.

The last U.S. concert Led Zeppelin played was at that stadium in 1977.
I don ‘t see a big difference. sport books have been there forever, and now a lot of money is online which doesn’t matter where the game is. Vegas is building as humongus entertainment packets to draw people and it will be bigger than the shows.
In thew future all the games will be in Vegas with teams retaining their nicknames but players and the business all be in Vegas. No travel, no games in the snow, no shithole cities.
Let’s put a baseball division in Latin America.
There was a fence area the lot and an armed guard in kiosk at the entry.
I asked for a room on the second floor of the back building. The guy said, it's booked. He put me in the front building. i went out to the car and saw about 12 hookers leaning on the rail of the second floor of the back building. I am guessing that Motel 6 had a high occupancy rating. Oh that was 1999. Went to a lot of home baseball games in Oakland in the late 80s. Unlike football they had huge sheriff's deputies hired to work the crowd and they took names and kicked ass. Mostly those games were orderly and polite, at least in the stands.
There were some scandals in the past.
Black Sox Scandal
Then Pete Rose.
You notice that the league cracked down hard after the scandals.
I have a feeling that something major is going to happen. It's going to rock the whole sport. We have social media. There's no way to cover it up.
Fans will get disgusted and there will be calls to boycott the sport.
the scandals you cite are independent of the location There is no evidence tom support your point that making Vegas more of an entertainment center will create more scandal than we have had before. and I believe it is illogical to say Vegas will create gambling scandals in sports when Vegas is one of the most regulated gambling places in the world. The owners in vegas have an interest in staying clean.
The basketball point fixings mostly took place in the east coast where the mafia is entrenched. Should we move sports out of the east?
