Saw a post from an artist I follow and fond this article.

Wiki background on UMG:

Universal Music Group N.V. (often abbreviated as UMG and referred to as just Universal Music) is a Dutch–American multinational music corporation under Dutch law. UMG's corporate headquarters are located in Hilversum, Netherlands and its operational headquarters are located in Santa Monica, California. The biggest music company in the world, it is one of the "Big Three" record labels, along with Sony Music and Warner Music Group. Tencent acquired ten percent of Universal Music Group in March 2020 for €3 billion and acquired an additional ten percent stake in January 2021. Pershing Square Holdings later acquired ten percent of UMG prior to its IPO on the Euronext Amsterdam stock exchange. The company went public on September 21, 2021, at a valuation of €46 billion.

The company's origins go back to the formation of the American branch of Decca Records in September 1934 and its name and company logo originates from Carl Laemmle's Universal Pictures.

Not sure what to make of this other than millions of Taylor Swift fans cannot listen to her on Tik Tok for now.

Tater Swuft isn’t making enough money. Probably wants to buy another island so she’ll have a couple places to go once she gets the two chimps running the Brandon regime in the District of Corruption reelected.

There’s other streaming platforms to listen to any artist, like YouTube and Amazon.

Just today in my college music class, I was discussing a 19th century composer, George Onslow. The reason practically no one knows anything about him is that, after his death, Richard Wagner conducted one of his works, decided he didn’t like it, and refused ever to conduct an Onslow work again—and that was enough to keep Onslow’s music unheard for a century.

No one has that kind of power today, not even TikTok or UMG. If you want to hear someone’s music, you can access any of a plethora of recording sources, and it’s only in places like North Korea or Tajikistan where the government is so authoritarian that music can be controlled—and even in these places there is an underground of resistance to the tyranny.
