Is this a black market thing?
I lose brain cells every time I read about these cups.
I look around and I see case after case of the Employer seeming to go out of their way to stomp on their Employees.
Buy our products? You’re fired!
Stop a shoplifter? You’re fired!
Prevent a child abduction? You’re fired!
Use the sick days we granted you as a benefit? You’re fired!
Only stupid people show loyalty to their Employer. It is not returned.
I saw some of those in the Fry’s Supermarket. They are made in Red China despite the high price. Stanley used to make most of their stuff in my home state of Connecticut, in New Britain. New Britain is mostly sad now.
I thought the funny thing was the pun on “Stanley Cup”, as in the hockey trophy.
If it weren’t Target, I would sympathize with the store for having employees buy the special cups due to early access, and here’s why:
Years ago, I worked for a publisher, and we had a VERY HOT forthcoming title that would stave off bankruptcy. We had to print it outside due to a special arrangement, but people pre-ordered, waiting for the book to come out.
One young employee bought several when the shipment came in, but before we could get the orders out. He immediately listed them on ebay. Of course all the people impatiently waiting were justifiably steamed.
We kept him on, as he did good work otherwise, but he was written up and his leash got a lot shorter.
Right, I don’t get the big deal about these cups. It’s not like they are a replica of THE Stanley Cup.
The human species is doomed. Doomed by employers. Doomed by employees. Doomed by customers. Dooooooooommmmed.
I wouldn’t buy one for fear they might fire me as a customer. Oh, I guess that couldn’t happen, since I’m not.
My granddaughter said all of the Stanley cups have been recalled because of lead in the construction of the cup.
They’re made in China.
LOL. If it sells, NOTHING in corporate America will be "limited edition."
pure marketing nonsense.
Nature abhors a vacuum. Any retailer selling product below market value is going to attract/invite opportunists.
I knew a guy that ordered a few new Harley’s in the hay day and resold them without ever taking delivery of the bike.
That insider advantage is reserved for the upper echelons, not the peons.
They can get hired right away with Boeing.

Target later:
We may have to close early because we can’t get employees
The Cabbage Patch Doll of cups
In a few years we’ll see those things on thrift store shelves.
