Denny’s used to be called Sambos.
Their mascot/logo was a big lipped high tone “darkie boy” in a checkered apron.
Their great sign was him running with a stack of pancakes on a platter held overhead.
Denny’s has also paid millions in settlements for “disrespecting” blacks over the years.
Most famous case was a group of black FBI agents who waited for their orders, while others were served.
Suing Denny’s then became a cottage industry.

That's not true. Denny's and Sambos were always two separate restaurants. There was no affiliation whatsoever.

I loved Sambos.
The walls were covered with cartoon-like scenes and the pancakes were memorable.

No. Denny’s only bought a few locations. Most Sambos were bought by Bakers Square.
