Mine was slow, must have had an 8-bit CPU.
The basketball game I had as a kid featured a ping-pong ball that rolled around a board until it stopped in a player position that had a little metal paddle underneath it. Then you tried to hit a basket by flipping a “catapult switch” that had tension on it. The further back you pulled on the switch, the more tension put on the paddle, sending the ball farther towards the basket when released.
If you sunk a basket, you adjusted the score using dials on the backboards.
For a low-tech, non-electric mechanical toy, it was a lot a fun.
We experimented with tuning the fins at the base of the players.
Uh, yeah, that actually looks worse than my experience with this random game.
So we got board and took the game outside, plugged it into outside outlet. Then we put ants on the field and watched them bounce around. That got boring quicky too. So I told my brother to go get the magnifying glass.......
I HAD ONE AND UT WAS A TOTAL WASTE!
Yep.. very realistic if you followed the Patriots this year.
that was a great game...
Had one. Plays were very random! 😂
Also, early technology slot cars used AC vibrator technology for the motors. They weren’t regular rotating DC motors. The ‘engine’ was a notched drum with a one-direction ratchet drum attached to the wheels and it had an arm with a blade that drove the drum from an AC vibrator coil that pulsed at 60 Hz..... I remember always having to adjust the slant on the part that drove the ratcheted drum.
“...the hockey game with the turning slider players....”
THAT was the Best.
It was so bad that I seriously doubt that I played it more than once or even for 10-15 minutes. 🤣
You have to sit on it.
Now ya tell me.

“It seemed that my dad and uncles were more interested in setting up magnificent plays and then everything went off the rails the minute it was activated.”
Your game had crappy referees too?
Yes. I remember the ping pong ball now.
I think once we got used to the little player pieces moving around we got tired of the game and moved on to other things.
lol
We had one of those. I had totally forgotten about it until your post.
I got mine on my birthday in 1973, so it came with the teams from that January’s Super Bowl - Dolphins and Redskins. That, and the fact that you could buy additional teams in their home or away uniforms, was cool. The game itself never worked great.
Pretty much my experience.
