Writing in this piece is horrendous. For example:
...Friday’s incident reportedly included several suspects armed with a knife.

My question: Was it one huge knife that several persons were holding onto simultaneously, or was it a knife that was passed around among the “several suspects”?
Perhaps the knife holder’s pronouns were they/them. It’s all so confusing these days.
