When I was a kid, early 1960’s, we would catch them and tie a thread to them and let them fly while we held the string.............
“Our chickens used to almost eat themselves to death when Cicadas emerged“
Did it affect the taste of the chicken?
Excited about eating 17 year locusts. I think this girl needs a life.
“She looks like a nut job”
As far as looks go, she’s straddling that line where she could go either way — super cute and wholesome, or a smelly unkempt hippie chick.
Her ideas: Definitely nut job.
Red wigglers are safe to eat as well. But, unless I’m lost in the forest and have no survival food with me, I’m not eating them for dinner. So, don’t be sending me any red wiggler recipes.
I saw some kid eat one once on a dare..................
Great Lakes and Midwest can have mayfly hatches so huge that snowplows have to clear slippery bridge decks.
I have ate bugs.......not on purpose.
I don’t know why we didn’t think of that. Cool 😎
If you are a cat.
Green Spring Flaviors!
.
Yummy and I’m in Mamma San !
.
Please Lord Take me Now!
It’s a Southern kid thing....................
The pilot of the F-117 Stealth Fighter that was shot down over Bosnia ate nothing but grubs and worms as he hid waiting to be rescued by special forces. Protein, Protein, Protein!
My neighbor’s dogs ate so many they both had to go to the vet. 🤣
Yes, and I’m in the cotton pickin south myself. Lol
C’mon, guys, she’s kinda cute!
Oh Boy...
Hate to hear about the Caths!
“99% of the Western world will never get into eating insects as part of their diet, and will always consider it disgusting.”
You might want to tell that to the French, Spaniards,Mexicans,Italians,Moroccans, and the Jews. Every one of those Western diets has some insect as part of their food culture. All of Asia does as well and Latin America especially Mesoamerica. As a world traveler I can confirm nearly every culture on earth eats at least one form of insect protein or insect produced product. Cicadas are quite good when fried they taste like freshwater prawns, same for locusts which are called desert shrimp for that very reason. Truth is anyone who eats water bugs (shrimp, prawn, lobster, crabs) are already eating insects the cognitive dissonance is all internal to the person the biology fact is water bugs are genetically identical to land bugs. Heck the largest and one of the tastiest crabs on earth are land bugs. Coconut crab is spectacular when grilled or roasted over you guessed it coconut shells.
Several years ago at a farmer's market, a vendor challenged me to take a bite ("like an apple" he said) of a certain variety - it was a Vidalia onion, or similar IIRC - it was sweet!
also, remember John the Baptist?
John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
I think locusts & cicadas are the same...
They all have that...”look”.
