Lets look at the charges and the actual situation:
First, indeed there are producing oil and gas wells within a mile of schools, mainly in Hobbs, Eunice and Jal. However, these are not located in poor neighborhoods but around the city. They are fenced with sensors that detect any unusual incident. The article makes it seem that there are pools of oil and pollution all over the landscape. In fact, there were instances decades ago where spills and use of unlined "emergency" pits polluted groundwater requiring complicated and costly cleanups and impacted homeowners were relocated and compensated. These instances were well documented and have led to much more stringent requirements for production operations and the banning of open and unlined pits. Children are much more likely to be impacted by emissions from vehicles on neighboring streets then from current O&G operations.
The authors apparently haven't looked at spill reports submitted to the Oil Conservation Division. Yes spills will occur but failure to report and remediate them will bring agency action and fines under current rules including some updated in the past two years. And recently there have been heavy fines for air and fluid releases in the oil patch.
Finally, action is being taken to lessen use of fresh water in fracking operations. New methods of treatment and reuse of frack water is very much on front burner these days. Most all industry, government and environmental stakeholders agree that change is needed here.
Finally, those in Santa Fe love the fact that the O&G industry provides in excess of 40 percent of state revenues allowing the governor and the progressives that control the legislature to splurge billions on their favorite projects like education (NM 50 out of 50) without success (no vouchers for private schools) and money for pre-K and welfare while keeping taxes on businesses high. No rebates for the taxpayers.
Now I know why people call it the Albuquerque Urinal.
” here in New Mexico people are choking on oil and gas pollution..”
Who is in charge of carting the bodies away?
I will be posting legislative updates on these and other issues doing the 30-day session that began on Tuesday.
Whoops, meant to post the update info in separate posts and not with the main article.
bkmk
Global warming is a scam to fool stupid people into giving away taxpayer money to people claiming they can "fix" the problem.
Even if it wasn't a fake issue, the dominant producers of C02 are China and India, and if the conversation isn't started by asking what can be done about China and India, the person talking about "global warming" isn't serious.
Yep.
Running wild in the streets, "sick and devastated."
We have proof that can't be disputed!

It’s beginning to look like that woman who testified at the Kavanaugh hearing was normal.
Step one, scare them.
Step two, come to their rescue.
Step three, control them.
The authors are just posturing and emoting for show. If they were sincere, the would also demand the banning the use of all oil, natural gas, and coal in the state, including products made from those substances.
Until they renounce the use of all plastics and other synthetics in their own homes and offices, I simply laugh at their arrogant nonsense.
“fossil gas”
“Titan’s lower atmosphere is primarily composed of nitrogen (94.2%), methane (5.65%), and hydrogen (0.099%).”

Dinosaurs were also on Titan, a moon of Saturn, but they farted too much and died.
She wants to inject toxic waste into the ground?
Something tells me that’s probably not a good idea.
So I take it New Messicans got rid of all of their vehicles and machinery run by petroleum products many moons ago. Yeah right.
“The Center for Biological Diversity” tells us that this article is absolute bullshit.
