There’s snow reason to speed during winter storms.
Chilling dashcam footage captured the moment a driver in upstate New York crashed nearly head-on into a snowplow after trying to pass another truck.
The plow was driving along a two-lane road in the North Country region when the semi-truck’s headlights appeared ahead with a black sedan riding alongside it.
The passenger car — squarely in the plow’s path — desperately tried to speed up and overtake the semi-truck, but couldn’t gain enough space in the slush and snow on the narrow roadway.

I passed some plows once going over a mountain pass just because they were going kinda slow. they tried to block my passing but failed.
It then sucked cause the road was so much worse unplowed. Won’t do that again.
By law lifted four wheel drive trucks must speed in the snow./s
Plus, illegal.
I’m in Alaska and see this all the time. We have snow covering ice covering snow covering ice...You get the picture. People fly by me with what seems like summer tires. It’s crazy. I use them to indicate if the road is truly icy and dangerous :)
Thankfully, no one was injured in this crash.
The original (1971) with Barry Nueman (RIP) was a great movie. Anyone that didn’t grow up in the 60s/70s won’t get it.
The 1997 remake with Viggo Mortensen should have been rated Y.
Just a guess. I think the snowplow driver hit the jackpot...
The idiot driver will probably sue the state/county road department.
They discussed this on the Weather Channel. One of them pointed out that there may have been yellow lines indicating a no-passing zone but that the road surface was covered with snow. So it may have been a place where you should not pass even under the best conditions. The driver should have been smart enough to know that passing was a bad idea anyway.
If’n they’da been drivin a Corvair, they coulda done a fishtail neatly and been on their merry way.
I run into the same phenomenon commuting to work on The Garden State Parkway.
Always in the worst weather possible some idiot is doing 80 in an SUV.
I just watched morons punching it in the snow yesterday
With a stop 🛑 sign just ahead. 🙄🙄🙄
Unsafe at any speed so Ralph said.
I thought the remake had a more coherent story. Although the original had its good points too.
Why is it always a Subaru?
Posted to Wrong story.
And on an outside curve with limited visibility, no less.
The solid double yellow on the road was covered with snow so the driver thought “If I can’t see the line, it has to be safe to pass.”
People just get in too much a hurry and make poor decisions.
Is that the one where he ran full speed into a bulldozer? I remember that scene well…
