Ex-Hertz Tesla Model 3s Cost as Little as $14,000. Would You Buy One?
The Drive ^

Hertz is offloading used Tesla Model 3s from its fleet at a deep discount. They may be former rentals, but they're cheap enough that you have to ask yourself—would you buy one for $14,000?

Hertz initially ordered 100,000 cars from Tesla, but has since pushed back its EV adoption for a multitude of reasons. The company blamed high repair costs and recent price cuts on new Teslas for the decision in an earnings call reported by CNBC. It's possible that the arrival of the 2024 Model 3's "Highland" facelift may also have pushed Hertz to liquidate. In fact, Hertz is already offloading excess Teslas, sometimes for less than half what they cost new.

“Until Hertz offloads the TOTAL IDIOT who thought jumping in full-throttle with EVs was a good idea, they’ll keep losing money.”
That’s been my point all along. Companies need to start firing these idiots that make stupid decisions that really hurt their bottom line.

I doubt this. I think people are more careful with rentals. It’s an unfamiliar vehicle so probably baby it at least the 1st day and then no one wants to deal with an accident.

I’d take several for $1 each and line them up at the southern border.

If you’ve ever owned a Lexus, you would understand.

They’ll go 300k with only tires, brakes, battery, air filter, oil changes. They’ll run 500K sometimes. All in nice comfort and excellent handling and performance.

I was chatting with my Mercedes mechanic one day and he said the best car on the road was a Lexus.

“Playing in the traffic” is what I did just by driving to work and back home during 20+ years living in the Wash DC metro area when I was in the Army, active duty and as a Dept Army civilian historian.

A relative had a Lexus SUV. I think it was a XX450 model. They got about 300K miles of use. I don’t remember if it bit the dust or they traded it..

No. The battery warranties are about to run out on the high mileage ones. It is not worth taking the risk. The standard Tesla M3 has a 100K mile battery warranty. The cars in the article all have 80K+ miles on the odometer.

Nope, because I am not going to upgrade my garage to install a charger.

We still have our 2010 Lexus GX-360. Hasn’t given us any problems.

But it is a gas hog, and only takes Premium.

Yeah, we have a 1999 Lexus RX300 with 348K and a 2013 IS250 with 129K. Never a non-normal maintenance problem, except the RX300 at 250K had to have a sensor replaced. I did it myself...I think it was around $100 for the sensor. I get about 18MPG to 24MPG in the RX300 and I get between 28MPG to 34MPG in my IS250. The IS250 burns premium...it’ll burn regular, but you do see a performance difference so I just stick with premium. Since the plandemic, I work from home so it doesn’t cost me much on a regular basis.

I’ve had a lot of experience with different vehicles in my long life with lots of kids...by far my Datsuns (210 and 280Z), Toyotas(4x4 4runner and 4x4 pickup) and Lexuses (RX300 and IS250) have been the most rugged and reliable.

That is one thing car buyers have to consider when buying a car. You have to bite the bullet and pay for premium. The cars will run on lesser grades of gas, but it is not good for the engine in the long run..
