Aaron Jones grew up idolizing Emmitt Smith and the Cowboys.
The Green Bay running back found a new, and most painful, way to torment the all-time rushing leader's former team.
Jones ran for three touchdowns, Jordan Love threw for three more in his postseason debut, Darnell Savage returned an interception 64 yards for a score and the Packers handed the Cowboys their first home loss since the '22 opener in a 48-32 wild-card stunner Sunday.
“This was my dad’s team,” Jones, who shared a moment with Smith before the game and now has 488 yards in four career games against the Cowboys, said of his late father. “You always want to be like your father, so that’s how it became my team. Dallas is a special place to me, so it’s a full-circle moment.”
Even against a team that had won 16 consecutive home games.
Green Bay (10-8) will visit top-seeded San Francisco in the divisional round next weekend.
Dak Prescott threw two interceptions before three mostly empty touchdown passes in another playoff flop for him and the No. 2 seed Cowboys (12-6).
The first home loss for the Cowboys since now-retired Tom Brady and Tampa Bay beat them 16 months ago was also the most points the franchise has allowed in a postseason game. The previous high was 38.
The Cowboys, who haven’t reached an NFC championship game since the most recent of their five Super Bowl titles 28 years ago, didn’t trail by more than eight points at AT&T Stadium this season before falling behind 27-0 in the first half.
The loss will raise questions about the future of Dallas coach Mike McCarthy after the Cowboys lost their playoff opener at home for the second time in three postseasons under the former Green Bay coach.

I was yelling at the TV at the time. The coach added some needless drama. I saw his look of concern after the 2nd Dallas TD and another 2 point conversion.
A long time ago, I remember a Giant-Bears game when the Bears scored two TDs in 17 seconds snatching a victory away from my NYG. It ain’t over until it is over.
But would Jerry get out of his way?
Just curious... So a referee will throw a flag when the quarterback takes a shot to the head, be it from a defender’s helmet or hand. Yet when the same quarterback throws a touchdown pass, he runs down the field and headbutts his receiver, headbutts his offensive lineman, headbutts the other receivers, and headbutts numerous teammates on the sidelines. Interesting.
Also found it humorous when the Cowboys offensive lineman threw himself to the ground when shoved by the Packers defensive lineman. All game long they literally were slamming into each other and standing their ground. And then Cowboy gets a relative poke in the shoulder any you’d think he was hit in the chest with a 12 gauge. Perhaps a quarterback, or a receiver going down like that... but a lineman? C’mom Man! Have you no shame? Embarrassing.
Packers should have used Jordan Love last season instead of the crazy antivax son of Joe Rogan.
28 years since reaching NFC championship.
Dallas is the most over hyped nothing team in the league.
And Jerry Jones is an idiot.
And Dak Prescott is way overrated.
And Cowboy fans are the most delusional in all of sport. 28 years! But yeah, greatest franchise. Probably worth the most. Because of the delusional fans.
When you look at Love’s first year record, it was better than both Rogers and
Favre. Love and C J Stroud are two budding superstars.
No doubt the Packers have a shot, but SF has superior overall talent. And they have a system that will stifle GB. And some GB players were banged up while SF has a rested team due to the bye.
He can’t be worse than the last three years of the Krafts...
Ha ha! You think the Texans are going to be a cakewalk?
I knew the Texans were going to be a handful for anyone they play in the post-season.
I remember when the Cowboys were called “America’s Team”.
I guess, given the current condition of this country, they still are…
If Jimmy were still coaching, he would have cut half the team yesterday.
They aren’t even “Texas’ Team”.
Playoff wins since 1998:
Texans - 5
Cowboys - 3
And the Texans have only been around since 2002.
Stunner??? Hardly considering McCarthy’s post season record with the Cowboys.
Bill Belichick will be the Cowboys head coach in 10 days
They did an awesome job, was fun to watch!

I remember that game well! It was on my mind as I was watching yesterday.
A friend told me Dallas finally remembered how to play football with two minutes left in the 4th quarter.
The Cowboys should be ashamed of themselves. Good for Green Bay.
amazing the turn araound from their days with the Browns
