Shut the Border or Shut the Government

When House Speaker Mike Johnson and 60 GOP members of Congress went to Eagle Pass, Texas, recently for a photo-op, they were probably shocked that the first question they were asked was for a show of hands of those who would shut down the government if President Biden doesn’t shut the border.

You see, that question actually frames unrestricted immigration at the southern border as the existential national crisis which it is. No wonder Texas Republican Rep. Pat Fallon lost it and immediately shouted, “We’re not gonna do ‘show of hands.’ We’re not in a classroom. We’re not doing ‘show of hands.’”

No, of course not. It’s much easier to shut down a reporter seeking the truth than it is to shut down the border and save the country.

The “show of hands” question came from Ben Bergquam of Real America’s Voice, one of the few journalists who has reported the hard realities about the border crisis on a near daily basis for years. He has followed migrants from the dangerous Darién Gap between Colombia and Panama all the way up the cartel corridor through Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico. If you watch his reporting, you will know this is not an innocent caravan of asylum seekers; it is an invasion, plain and simple. He asks each immigrant two questions: Where are you from and where are you going? They are from across the globe, not just Central or South America. Yes, there are plenty from Venezuela, but just as many from Somalia, Egypt, West Africa, or China. And most of them are military age men. They aren’t escaping from persecution or violence; they are coming to America for jobs – and for benefits – and ultimately to drain our country of resources.

If the politicians won’t close the border then they should house the illegals in their own homes and personally cover all expenses and cover for damages that they cause to others.

Quotes from the 1951 Refugee Convention:

Article 23 - Public relief

The Contracting States shall accord to refugees lawfully staying in their territory the same treatment with respect to public relief and assistance as is accorded to their nationals.

Article 17 - Wage-earning employment
....
2. In any case, restrictive measures imposed on aliens or the employment of aliens for the protection of the national labour market shall not be applied to a refugee...who fulfils one of the following conditions:
(a) He has completed three years’ residence in the country;
....
(c) He has one or more children possessing the nationality of the country of residence.

Article 34 - Naturalization [and getting the right to vote (and buy AR-15s)]

The Contracting States shall as far as possible facilitate the assimilation and naturalization of refugees. They shall in particular make every effort to expedite naturalization proceedings and to reduce as far as possible the charges and costs of such proceedings.

https://www.ohchr.org/en/instruments-mechanisms/instruments/convention-relating-status-refugees

Article 44 - Denunciation [getting out from under the Refugee Convention]
1. Any Contracting State may denounce this Convention at any time by a notification addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
2. Such denunciation shall take effect for the Contracting State concerned one year from the date upon which it is received by the Secretary-General of the United Nations....

NOTE: I do not trust any politician to end leftist migrant mercenary-based political takeovers who has not called for invoking Article 44 to get the US out from under the Refugee Convention.

And my distrust extends to Trump and DeSantis.

The Refugee Convention must be removed from the Democratic Party toolbox by invoking Article 44.

Article 31. - Refugees unlawfully in the country of refuge

1. The Contracting States shall not impose penalties, on account of their illegal entry or presence, on refugees who, coming directly from a territory where their life or freedom was threatened in the sense of article 1, enter or are present in their territory without authorization, provided they present themselves without delay to the authorities and show good cause for their illegal entry or presence.
2. The Contracting States shall not apply to the movements of such refugees restrictions other than those which are necessary and such restrictions shall only be applied until their status in the country is regularized or they obtain admission into another country. The Contracting States shall allow such refugees a reasonable period and all the necessary facilities to obtain admission into another country.

Article 32. - Expulsion

1. The Contracting States shall not expel a refugee lawfully in their territory save on grounds of national security or public order.
2. The expulsion of such a refugee shall be only in pursuance of a decision reached in accordance with due process of law. Except where compelling reasons of national security otherwise require, the refugee shall be allowed to submit evidence to clear himself, and to appeal to and be represented for the purpose before competent authority or a person or persons specially designated by the competent authority.
3. The Contracting States shall allow such a refugee a reasonable period within which to seek legal admission into another country. The Contracting States reserve the right to apply during that period such internal measures as they may deem necessary.

https://www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/documents/atrocity-crimes/Doc.23_convention%20refugees.pdf

The Refugee Convention by permitting illegal entry (and entry upon any request) makes it impossible to secure the border. We need to get out from under the Refugee Convention.

many of the early meetings of our country began that way.

It is proper parliamentary procedure....................

Haven’t we yet learned that the government doesn’t really shut down, just the parts meant to stick it to the people (like parks, etc.)?

In 2013 along with outdoor memorials, obama had Ash hole Carter shut down half the DoD civilian workforce.

I know some might applaud that given the common sentiment on FR, however the point is, along with my facility, many others that directly supported the US Warfighter were crippled for a week for no good reason.

During these so called shutdowns the DoD is an ESSENTIAL branch and is ALWAYS fully funded.

At just my facility alone 3,500 Navy aviation maintenance personell were placed on no duty-no pay furloughs....for absolutely no reason other than to F with people......the demon that is obama loved to do that.

Shut down both the border and the government—and do not pay government employees for being laid off. The workers in no other segment of the workforce get paid for being laid off. Taxpayers need to stop buying the claim that they had nothing to do with the government shutdown so they need to be paid. The same can be said for any other group of people laid off. Perhaps if we stop paying government employees, the size of government might decrease over time. (Yeah, I know that assumes government employees have skills needed in the private sector which may or may not be true on an individual basis.)

My brother brought up this situation with me a few weeks ago:

Imagine right now a terror group is in the USA and like Hamas they want to do something just as horrific as Oct. 7th.

Say they organize and set a date and time for them to massacre elementary school children in schools across the country.

Word goes out of a school shooting in the news, then we find out there was another and another and another and that they all happened silmutaneously for maximum death before cops could arrive.

When the smoke clears, it’s estimated thousands of school children have died. What would be the reaction?

I told him that’s easy: The Democrats and RINOs would blame guns, conservatives the open border.

So what’s the biggest threat to this nation? DEMOCRATS AND RINOs because no matter HOW BAD it is, they will NEVER blame the killers and that’s proven by the open borders. They STILL insist on open borders even after the Sept. 11th 2001 attacks

Speaker Johnson has already folded on the border:

"Speaker Johnson Folds Like A Cheap Suit To Democrats’ Spending Increases"

"Johnson conceded late last week that he would not insist on border security provisions being added to the annual spending bills.

Shut both until Trump is in the White House! Then start an emasculated federal goobermint. Keep Defense high, bout with an end to extraneous weaponry.

Drell, baby drill, but completely stop anything dealing with EV and drastically reduce Federal aid to all but a few....very few countries that are friendly to us.

Take a meat ax to expenses and salaries. Romney is calling for House and Senate to get big raises, but Thay’ll be lucky to keep what they have while their staff and expenses will be drastically reduced.

What we will be doing is sort of what Obama and Biden pledged to the ignorant voters: remake the USA into a frugal nation with strong defense designed onoly for protecting our nation and not the unwashed world.

And goodbye all illegals and the busses they rode in on. Everyone must see thta the crime Biden perpetrated is in no way sustainable. We cannot furnish a living for foreign nationals EVER!

We will, however, miss that Biden dream of building a bridge from the west coast to the Indian Ocean.

What a horrible 3 years of our lives wasted by a brainless pants dumping moronic senile old bastard. The faces dance before me in my nightmares: Yellen, Buttiplug, Myjerkus, Grandhole, Asstun, Garlung, Gored, and a ho9st of other fools.
