Any time, a leftist brings up that many Founders were slave owners, or that Jefferson impregnated one of his slaves, or that Trump was an alley cat, or other Really Uncomfortable Facts about these great men, many folks on our side have a cow.
But that MLK guy, heeeeees a plagiarist and a womanizer. He’s baaaaad. Blah blah blah.
These same folks post negatively about the FBI…unless the FIB allegedly has unreleased dirt on MLK. I don’t get it. The FBI has a spotless history of defending truth, justice, and the American way. They’re beyond reproach.. There is NO WAY they’d frame anyone. (is the /sarc really necessary?)
MLK, the Founders, and Trump et al, aren’t Saints. Neither am I. And yes, there are plenty of awful folks who are black. And there are lotsa bad whites.
King was assasinated for, in general, trying to make America a better place. By way of contrast, most of us type and post on FR to Defend Liberty. Let’s be honest: in this calculation, we can’t hold a candle to MLKjr.
Will I be attending a lecture today on King? No. Will I go to a municipal celebration about MLK. Nope. I also don’t celebrate Presidents Day.
But I will feel a little better about being an American, where we work on our flaws and continue to be a great nation. I will thank God I wasn’t born in Europe or Asia etc. And I’ll thank God that His Son came for us sinners and not the Perfect Ones posting online.
Question to ponder. Who got him out of the room and on to the balcony so he would be a clear target?
Neither can anyone hold a candle to George Washington, Thomas Jefferson (slave diddler that he was), Abraham Lincoln, or even Alexander Hamilton. Great men were all great despite their flaws, because their accomplishments outweigh them greatly. MLK was no different.
When somebody celebrates MLK Day, he can’t refuse to sit in the back of a bus, which now would mean nothing, or go around shaking black people’s hands, which would be just plain stupid, and he sure can’t womanize or plagiarize.
On Washington’s birthday, we used to eat cherry pie, even though the story of him with the cherry tree is pure fiction. But it was an easy observance. Lots easier than going to Mauritania and buying a slave, or on Jefferson’s birthday diddling one.
He can attend one of these celebrations, or privately say, “gosh, I’m sure glad he came along and changed the world for the better”. At this point, what difference does it make. But it is good that he came along, just as it’s good that Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Churchill came along. They enriched the world immeasurably, which is the measure of a “great man”.
Make the leftist play by their rules.
That’s all I’m saying.
They punk us at every turn.
Well said. I’ve yet to meet athe perfect person. Don’t tell my wife I said that. 😃
