I think this was back in the late 70s. That call stuck in my mind.
That and the guy a few lockers down showing off his wallet full of food stamps because he was collecting from 5 baby mamas and over a dozen kids.
Again, this was back then, and I doubt things have improved since then
It’s called SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), now and it’s administered thru a Credit card-like EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) Card.
They got rid of the paper food stamps because they were being sold on the street for drug/cig/beer money at less than 50 cents on the dollar.
But the EBT card didn’t end that practice, they just found a new way to do it.
I was approached in WalMart by a black woman who wanted to pay for my groceries with her EBT Card and I was to give her my cash. Of course I said no and she went to look for another sucker................
