Those are so small you even have to watch for owls he should take better care of them my dog is 16 pounds and I never leave him alone plus 6 foot fence but we have coyotes that howl like Indians in the dead of night
Our neighbors had a Teacup Chihuahua they nearly lost to an owl one night. Poor thing barely escaped with his life.

Yes, you cannot let small dogs out on their own. We watch our Chihuahua even if she’s on the deck with a fenced area around it. Before our Beagle Buddy died we used to let him babysit her because he was pretty frosty and wouldn’t let anything near Coco.
Absolutely correct! AZ is fraught with life threatening fauna, Coyotes, bobcats, cougars, rattlesnakes etc. I’d never EVER leave my dogs off leash or free ranging even in an enclosed area. My sister had a bull German Shepherd torn up prety good by coyotes in AZ. As good as AZ is with guns, they have a terrible law that makes it a felony to shoot to protect your pet.
I was given a miniature long hair Chihuahua when she was about four, the previous owner was working long hours the kids were in school and the dogs buddy, a st bernard) passed away and this little girl Chihuahua was all alone and the lady of the house gave the dog to me.
She was a good girl, she was tiny and I would never let her out alone, and always leashed. It got me out of the house for a quick mile lap around the block.
I imagine if I lived in an area with coyotes, and we do have some around here, I would probably get a compact pit, something tough as nails. And if the coyotes were really bad, I’d get a brace of pits.
