First It Was Eggs. Now Exploding Hot-Water Pipes. The Domestic Headaches Overshadowing Putin's Reelection Messaging

In Siberia's Novosibirsk, Russia's third-largest city, a major hot-water main burst, sending cascades of steaming water rushing through frozen streets and cutting off heating to scores of buildings -- and thousands of people -- amid Arctic temperatures.

In the Pacific port of Vladivostok, some 3,000 people were left in the bitter cold after an above-ground heating pipeline ruptured, spewing similar volumes of steaming water.

And nine hours to the west, in a string of Moscow suburbs, more than 150,000 people shivered -- and complained vociferously -- when another municipal heating pipe broke down, with engineers rushing to dig up the frozen ground.

Since January 1, amid a two-week period spanning various holidays, a growing number of towns and cities have reported major problems with heat and hot water.

Russia's winters are cold. This is not news. Russia's municipal infrastructure, much of which is Soviet-era and sporadically maintained, is aging. This is not news.

-snip-

A much-reviled legacy of Soviet central planning, heating and hot water are provided to the vast majority of Russian residences around the nation from municipal heating plants through a network of pipes that frequently rupture and need constant repair.

On January 9, after days of mounting complaints in the Moscow region district of Podolsk and videos of ice-encrusted radiators and gas cooking stoves turned on full blast circulating on social media, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov spoke out, blaming "anomalous" cold for the exploding pipes, but also pointed to the aging infrastructure.

"Of course, despite titanic efforts to update all housing and communal-services systems, some of them remain in a rather dilapidated state," Peskov said in a conference call with reporters. "These programs will continue. But it is impossible to update all pipes and all housing and communal services systems in 10 or 15 years."

Even North Korea is mocking Russia's egg and poultry crisis.

Crybar isn't happy about the heating disaster across all the Russian territories, particularly Moscow.

"Evidently America’s civil society would start to seriously dysfunction too. Right?"

See, that's your problem. You fail to recognize that that is exactly what is going on in this country, right now, today, and has been going on for a very long time now. Take off your freaking blinders.

Can't wait to freeze to death when they make heat pumps mandatory here. New York State's already done it.

The Americans in Texas with good new jobs exporting energy to Europe certainly care. That there are some who too politically unsophisticated to understand the important issues at hand matters not in the end.

When it’s posted by the same bunch of clowns 24/7, then it’s propaganda. They clearly have an agenda which isn’t in America’s best interest. We have our own problems to contend with that require our focus and money.

Hello Bert,
I think you mistakenly addressed your reply to me.

As you know, I never rationalize russian failures.
On the contrary, I always bring the russian failures to the spotlight - for everyone to see that Russia is indeed slowly but surely becoming a failed state.

All the best,

The Soviet Union still exists in the mind of Putin, otherwise, why is he trying to sieze Ukraine and other independent places like Georgia? Also, why is he ordering that Russian school children be taught to chant “Glory to the Soviet Nation”? He is training future Soviet soldiers to fight and die for his dreams of Soviet style conquest and control of Europe.

There are certainly complicating deflections occurring thanks to Russian and it’s Iranian ally actions. Recently Iran has fired on Iraq and Pakistan. Iran is supplying drones to the Houthis who are angering some 40 or 50 countries by attacking international shipping.

Today I heard that Pakistan has fired on Iran. Now my brain is racing—what if Iran/Afghanistan/Pakistan get into inter Muslim warfare, Shia versus Sunni? What if various of the Stans that Russia has been eyeing decide that Russia is so weak that it might be time to aide Chechen patriots to recover their territory? What if Russia discovers it has lit a whole series of Muslim countries reacting in ways that have nothing to do with Russia’s designs on Europe? Certainly the Saudis and Egypt are not happy with current events. Who might they decide to support if Iran and Pakistan have at it? WHAT IF??? ANY THOUGHTS???

“When it’s posted by the same bunch of clowns 24/7, then it’s propaganda”

That’s a Logical Fallacy. Specifically an Ad Hominem fallacy.

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/4211211/posts

Attacking an argument because of who made the argument does not invalidate the argument. Not at all.

“They clearly have an agenda which isn’t in America’s best interest.”

This is a propaganda technique called an Appeal to Fear.

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/4211213/posts

“We have our own problems to contend with that require our focus and money.”

This is also a propaganda technique. Perhaps more than one. In any case Whataboutism covers this.

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/4211213/posts

So you accuse USA-FRANCE of posting propaganda yet your comment is wholly absent of any constructive content and instead utilizes known logical fallacy and propaganda techniques to further your own agenda.

Three sentences packed with a punch! I will say, well done!
