Michael Luttig speaks to Ali Velshi about the Supreme Court’s decision to take up the question of Trump’s eligibility and why he believes it will be “one of the most consequential Supreme Court decisions since the founding of the nation.” He also explains what many Americans get wrong about the case and what he expects the outcome of the Supreme Court’s decision to be. “The Supreme Court does not want to decide this case and they will likely look for every legitimate way possible to avoid deciding whether the former president is disqualified from the presidency. But there are very, very few, if any, off ramps that would allow the Supreme Court to avoid decision in this case. Indeed, I believe there are none. Section 3 of the Constitution simply couldn't be any clearer."

Once Trump is successful, now you gotta ensure that all Trump votes are tabulated and then secured. A more difficult task, to be sure, in the rat-infested states.

Or maybe they remember that a majority of the senators actually voted to convict on that charge, including 6 Republicans. Not enough to convict, but hardly a ringing endorsement of his innocence either. People keep throwing this out there like it is dispositive, but whether or not he was convicted by the Senate says nothing definitive about whether or not he could be convicted in court. Personally, I don’t think anything he did even approaches insurrection or incitement thereof, but to rely on the impeachment vote to support that merely opens up the argument that a majority thought he was guilty.

I kind of expect the Wise Latina and Biden's appointee to try to find some excuse to rule against Trump. So it could be 7-2. But even 6-3 wouldn't completely surprise me.
The media will praise him for being a “true conservative in the best tradition of conservativism” as opposed to the “toxic fascism” of MAGA.
If they had tried a criminal prosecution in DC against Trump, they might have gotten a conviction, given the jury pool. Of course that’s effectively what they are trying to do now, but they chose to wait until the 2024 election was heating up.
