A Texas vigilante who shot and killed a robber in a Houston restaurant last year will not be charged, a grand jury has decided.
The shooter, who was said to be 'protecting everyone' in the restaurant, struck Eric Eugene Washington, 30, nine times with one bullet hitting him execution-style in the head.
Washington had entered the El Ranchito taqueria on January 5, 2023 while flashing what appeared to be a gun, later discovered to be plastic, and robbing the residents inside.
The customer, 46, then shot Washington as he attempted to flee the scene, security footage from the event shows.
A Texas grand jury has now 'no billed' the shooter,' meaning no criminal charges will be filed against him in relation to the incident, Harris County District Attorney's Office said in a statement.
The shooter, who wished to remain anonymous was within his right under Texas' self-defense laws, his attorney said at the time.
'In Texas, a shooting is justified in self-defense, defense of others and in defense of property,' attorney Juan L. Guerra Jr. said.
'In fear for his life and his friend's life, my client acted to protect everyone in the restaurant' he argued.
'This event has been very traumatic, taking a human life is something he does not take lightly and will burden him for the rest of his life.'
There were about 10 customers eating in the restaurant when Washington entered, wearing a black ski mask and gloves, and started to rob the diners.
Many scattered to the ground and gave over their possessions in fear of Washington - who was later revealed to be taunting the taco shop with a fake firearm.
Washington's mother, Corine Goodman, said the shooter should have stopped firing as soon as there was no longer a threat.

That is what the customer did!
The robber was pointing his gun at someone else, when shot.
Not “fleeing”.

As I recall, many news sites cropped the video to cut out the guy in the corner the thug was pointing his pistol at.
The video I watched the guy was terrorizing everyone in that store.
He choose poorly that night.

That guy in the corner had his hands up. The perp was still a threat.
Like cbs or one of them putting their logo over the open wound on the back of George Zimmerman's head.
That "White" hispanic guy.
no mother should fear that her baby be shot when robbing other people
too long for a bumper sticker, but some welfare mothers are wide enough
They could wear it on a T-shirt
i was wondering about that
thanks for the info
although Texas allows for defense of property
White privilege vigilantism is a communicable disease that mst be stopped. Fortunately we have just about eradicated it from the white population male, female and otherwise gendered. Apparently we have a real problem in the Hispanic community with this thinking that you have property rights much less a right to defend yourself against suppressed minority looking for equity.
Do I get an A in DEI class now?
"Nyaaaah! I know what it's like to be black! Nyaaah!"
All joking aside, this was a righteous ruling. Rare in these times.
Sh'explains why so many are moving to Texas these days.
I want a cottage in Helotes.Where the sheriffs wear blue jeans and a badge with sidearms on their belts.
He’s not a career criminal anymore ....
Saved a lot of future victims
Nine times with one bullet. Impressive.
Texas is unusual but not unique in its appreciation of the use of armed force against robbers. That said, this case is at the perimeter of what is legally acceptable due to the connotation of vigilante justice. The exoneration of the citizen who shot and killed the robber may reflect a change in public mood toward favoring the use of lethal force against robbers.
The outstanding thing is that the hero shooter was just going about his everyday business,
got hungry and stopped to have a couple tacos in a local restaurant......and he was carrying.
GOOD!..... more of Satan’s animals need to be put down!
Washington had been convicted in 2015 in connection to the murder of 52-year-old Hamid Waraich, the owner of a Boost Mobile cell phone store, who was fatally shot in the back during a robbery. He was paroled in 2021 after serving six years.
If this thug’s mother wants to blame someone for her son’s death it should be the parole board that released him from prison.
This man should have been behind bars.
