Yes, I spent a summer as a teen on a mission trip to Haiti - our accommodations were nasty and dirty (including the outhouse we had to use)

We only ate the food we brought but the flies were terrible and on everything. Our building did not have screens.

Long story short, most our team had dysentery, some had to be life flighted back home. I didn’t but I did get sick and also got shigella. Awful, awful. I lost 30-something pounds. Even though I was being treated back in the states, I smelled bad, like I was sweating out toxins from my pores. I was a senior in high school and for the first few months no one could stand to be near me.

I am livid that these third world diseases are in the US 😡
