> A taser is not an option when a deadly weapon is in play… <
I must respectfully disagree. The totality of the situation must be considered. Has the person with the deadly weapon used the weapon? What is his/her mental state? How is he/she behaving?
I get that these are not easy questions! And I get that cops must make difficult decisions while under pressure. But I’m just tired of police officers escalating to the max on matters large and small. It pushes citizens like me away from supporting the blue.
Of course, your mileage may vary.
I have spent 33 years in law enforcement… and I can tell you that the taser is not 100 percent effective…and if you attempt a taser deployment and it doesn’t stop her… and she stabs someone or you… that’s a problem…. The reason taser leads at 24 feet is because someone can cross that distance in the amount of time it takes an officer to process and pull out his firearm to defend himself or someone else…. Knives are lethal weapons… and are therefore responded to as such. I understand the need for de escalation training… but untill yih have another officer on scene as backup… you are responsible for the safety of the person she is standing next to… and like I said… tasers are not 100% effective. And jt fails… and she stabs someone… it’s on you …
