I did the same with an old woman in 1968 when all gun registration was being pushed. She was all for it because the TV shows and news show were in favor of it.
Years later I found the US Congress,in 1941, rejected any gun registration schemes because the nazis were using it to collect firearms under threats of execution in occupied France.
Today I suggest people inventory their firearms and see which ones have a paper trail back to them and immediately trade them off! I wish I had back those I bought before Dec of 1968. (Yes, I am that old.)
If the paper trail leads to you, they’ll come looking. “I sold it.” may not get you off the hook with bona fide fascists.
