Ukraine's attacks on annexed Crimea are chasing President Vladimir Putin's Black Sea Fleet away from the peninsula, and Kyiv's efforts in the region have been the most successful aspect of its counteroffensive, according to a former commander of U.S. Army Europe.
Retired Lieutenant General Ben Hodges spoke with Newsweek after Ukraine's airforce struck the eastern Crimean port of Feodosia on Tuesday with cruise missiles, damaging Russia's Novocherkassk landing ship and leaving large numbers of sailors unaccounted for.
It marked the latest strike by Ukraine on Crimea, the peninsula which Putin annexed in 2014 and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has pledged to recapture. The region is Russia's central logistics hub for its forces in southern Ukraine. Russia's Black Sea Fleet has suffered extensive casualties throughout the war. Its flagship, Moskva, was attacked in April 2022. In September, Ukraine launched a missile attack on the Black Sea Fleet headquarters in Sevastopol, reportedly killing a number of leading officers and taking out a Russian submarine.
Experts close to Ukraine's Defense Ministry previously told Newsweek that Kyiv is embarking on a strategy to "demilitarize" the Black Sea Fleet as part of steps toward eventually liberating Crimea. In the past four months, Russia has lost 20 percent of its Black Sea fleet, British Defense Minister Grant Shapps said shortly after the attack on the port of Feodosia.

>> Is the story false?
Yes; you speak well, this piece of writing is a STORY.
A few facts that don’t support its fabulous (look up the meaning of the word) conclusion.
Ukraine is on the ropes. Zzzzellinskkyyyy means to butcher (look up the meaning of the word) his entire nation for the approval of his globalist masters.
>> Once Ukraine sinks or destroys the whole fleet, there won’t be any excuse for Moscow to keep occupying Crimea anymore. And Putin’s War will have been for nothing.
FABULOUS!
(Look up the meaning of the word)
Oh brother 🙄
“Reminds me of Hussein declaring he was closing Gitmo ...”
Presidential candidates often say things based on what they think is politically popular only to discover when they go to do those things that the facts are not what they thought. The reason Gitmo could not be closed is, if you brought the prisoners to America then you’d be forced to put them into the American legal system. Since they’d been taken on a battlefield by American military, not civilian police, they had not been treated as American law requires of prisoners in the American legal system. No reading of rights, no special legally required treatment, no lawyer appointed, etc. This would mean they’d all be released. Since no country wanted them, they’d be released into America. Where, probably in short order, they’d do something that would be hugely politically damaging to the president who caused their release. That’s why he never released them or closed Gitmo. You’d think someone would have warned him before he said something stupid. Or maybe they did, and he said it anyway for the short-term political gain it gave him with some constituents.
Srednik applauds Ukraine’s strategic move. Fewer vehicles and munitions will be carried by ship to Crimea and then by rail to support Vladolf Putler’s forces in the field. (Witness the catastrophic explosions of the REPUCHA class amphibious ship that was filled with ammunition).
Speaking of Putler, yesterday’s his 122 missiles fired into Ukrainian cities so reminded Srednik of the Blitz of London. May Putler and his cronies disintegrate and a better Russia emerge.
Lol...Ben Hodges is a delusional moonbat.
There are still two days left in “this year.”
Or are you referring to 2024?
Russia is advancing all along the front and Ukrainian forces are falling back after suffering heavy casualties. Ukraine is losing troops it has no realistic means of replacing. Russia, by contrast, is surging the size of its army and is not a victim of a war of attrition. Russia is the causing the attrition.
The lack of artillery ammunition on the part of Ukraine and the inability of the West to supply amounts that match what Russia is firing on a daily basis means that Ukraine, not Russia, is the one being battered.
Unlike Ukraine, which has been snatching men of all ages from the streets of Ukrainian cities and forcing them to the front with minimal training, Russia has enlisted almost 500,000 new soldiers in 2023. These new recruits are not being rushed into combat. They are going through the full regimen of training.
Ukraine has lost 50% of its population to emigration and war casualties. It has lost the Donbas, which is a rich region in terms of natural resources and industrial capacity. Ukraine has no path forward as a viable, strong country
