The Linux Foundation has released their 2023 Annual Report... and it is an absolute doozy.
The first big headline?
As of 2023, The Linux Foundation now spends just 2% -- that's two percent -- of their revenue on their namesake: The Linux Kernel.
"Ask yourself this: If there is a foundation named after a specific thing... what percentage of that foundation's revenue would you expect to be spent on said thing?
Let's say... "Save the Orange Trees Foundation". How much of their revenue should be spent on, you know, orange trees? 100%? 50%? 10%?
If "Save the Orange Trees" only spent 2% on "saving Orange Trees"... would you think that something was amis? Of course you would. And you would quickly wonder what non-Orange-Tree related things that foundation is funding.
With that in mind, let's look at Linux Foundaton funding of Linux... compared to their investments in "Blockchains" and "Artificial Intelligence".
It’s the greatest scam since Global Warming and FTX (and Bill was in on that too along with Tony Blair, promoting SBF)
We will still own ours long after you are forced to subscribe to your MS OS “in the cloud”.
Don’t forget to pay your rent to MS, or that computer you paid big bucks for is just a boat anchor...
Every operating system ever invented since the very beginning of computing sucks and is crap.
Every.
Single.

I’ve used a bunch, over the years.
Every operating system I have worked with in many decades of computing is an awesome tool that helped me accomplish the mission.

” Where is the other 82% going?”
I assume download support such as for servers and bandwidth.
There might be patent issues that have to be dealt with.
Fonts might have to be licensed.
“They have elected a bunch of Microsoft representatives and officers to their foundation board because MS basically bought the Linux foundation.”
That should not be allowed. The Microsoft people should be told to take a hike either by the rest of the board or by a government.
The Clintons would say it’s none of our business. Apparently, the IRS agrees.
“I assume download support such as for servers and bandwidth.”
Absolutely not. Every fork and distro does that themselves from their own volunteer servers and services.
“That should not be allowed. The Microsoft people should be told to take a hike either by the rest of the board or by a government.”
I absolutely AGREE! Dayglored and I talked about that a few years back. As soon as MS started sniffing around in Linux we knew this was going to be the end result. They should have been locked out back then before it got to this point.
It's basically an educational institution. (Not saying that it's any good at what it does, mind you ...)
I didn’t mean to come off as rude, but here is the reality of volunteerism in Linux. Here are personal source server mirrors to get certain distros from. They are private and numerous. The Linux foundation has nothing to do with it.

There is a lot more to open source software than the linux kernel

“You guys understand that the “Linux Foundation” doesn’t control the linux kernel or its development, etc., right?”
Exactly right! but they are accepting donations from MS and others to hamper and slow the advancement of Linux.
They need to either get back behind Linux or get the hell out and stop using the Linux brand name for their operations.
It is criminal fraud and misrepresentation by the very definition. And IRS fraud to boot. If a church tried to get away with this for tax breaks they would be shut down in a heartbeat.
“There is a lot more to open source software than the linux kernel”
Are they “Linux” without the Linux Kernel???
Does the “Linux foundation” call themselves the “open source foundation?”
NO...
As a die-hard linux fan, I absolutely despise the Linux Foundation.
“As a die-hard linux fan, I absolutely despise the Linux Foundation.”
Thank you... And here all this time I thought they were on our side... It really is disheartening to find out they are trying to destroy the very product they claim to represent.
Time to organize and take it back away from them. I’ll do it... I have no problem getting a domain name, hosting, and put up a site to fight against these A-holes...
⊲ Policies against all-male panels andspeaker lineups
⊲ pronoun stickers, all-gender restrooms, zen zones,
⊲ non-binary networking lunches, diversity lunches, and receptions that include Ally guest
Wokeism virus detected. Self-destruction sequence initiated. Clean infection immediately.
Other than the businesses who provide commercial support for Linux—RedHat, SUSE?, etc, who would even give this organization money? It’s like if there was a Sugar Packet foundation.
Can’t say I’m surprised at all. It seems like every ‘foundation’ gets taken over by leftists, since they can’t actually produce anything of their own.
