In Heinlein’s novel, a researcher discovered that if you bombard certain diseases with electromagnetic waves of a particular frequency, the cells would die.
Each disease had a different frequency.
A tunable generator was devised and then you could just set the frequency for the particular disease.
It could also be used to kill people, in this novel Chinese Communist invaders, by tuning it to the frequency for their particular ‘race’.....................
