Because AI is not human and has no awareness of what it is doing. Designers are too stupid to realize this and to attempt to program into it a “what the hell am I doing” module that will constantly monitor the actions of the AI, evaluate them, and determine if the action must be stopped.

For those who never read the actual article: I dont think the headline writer read the article either. This was not an “attack” but merely an industrial accident where a programmed machine did its function while in the wrong position or when a human limb/appendage was where it was not supposed to be. Certainly not an attack under the volition of the robot. This was a scare headline designed to promote clicks from people fearful of robots and AI. This robot has very limited AI to do a simple mundane task of moving a cut part from Point A to Point B, turn it and put it into an assembly. Nothing more happened here than someone was not paying attention.
