‘Christmas Lawyer’ faces disbarment after calling judge ‘corrupt’ for banning his holiday display, which featured a camel, during HOA fight

A self-proclaimed “Christmas Lawyer” faces losing his legal license after he criticized a judge who banned his festive home display, which featured a live camel and 700,000 bulbs, allegedly calling the justice “corrupt” and a “hateful anti-Christian bigot.”

Jeremy Morris was informed the Idaho State Bar has “probable cause to proceed with formal charges” against him for accusing federal Judge B. Lynn Winmill of corruption following an ongoing legal battle with the West Hayden Estates Homeowners Association.

“The Idaho State Bar has made it clear they’re going to protect their friends, in this case, a federal judge,” Morris told Fox News. “But the problem is, attorneys have the freedom of speech.” Winmill had overturned a unanimous jury verdict to allow his Christmas display and that any further setup must comply

Another article I read said his display was in 2015 and 2016. We bought here in 2018. No wonder I missed it!

I’d sure like to know where he hired a camel. Both the local Camels-R-Us and Enterprise Rent-A-Camel closed a long time ago.

Sorry, if that is a big bah humbug of me, well, get over it. I love Christmas, but I look at this and wonder why? All that money, all that destructive behavior and results.

Agree as it applies to the original case. And hey, if you’re dumb enough to sign on with a commie hoa, be prepared to not have freedom on your own property.

My beef is with the fact that today judges are practically immune from anger and criticism. Say one wrong word and you face destruction. That’s so counter-1A to me.

People not only know the rules, but sign saying they will abide by them. No pity. You are smart not to live in an HOA if you are a rule breaker.

People not only know the rules, but sign saying they will abide by them. No pity. You are smart not to live in an HOA if you are a rule breaker.

I watched a sort of “documentary” on this. Dude claimed that as a lawyer he thoroughly reviewed the HOA rules before moving in, and that there were no restrictions on Christmas displays or decorating. He then met with HOA to inform them that he was doing it. They supposedly sent him a letter saying his decorations might be offensive to people of other faiths.

HOA admitted that this was a poor choice of words.

Lawyer sued claiming religious discrimination and was actually awarded by a jury. Judge then overrules jury verdict and instead awards damages to the HOA and bans lawyer from any Christmas displays. Lawyer appeals.

During documentary, lawyer bad-mouths the judge for overturning jury verdict. Lawyer now threatened to be disbarred.

I don’t trust any so-called “documentary” without other corroboration. But it did present interviews from both sides. This dude seems to enjoy throwing the “I’m a lawyer and I’ll sue” if he doesn’t get his way. However, judges wholesale overturning jury verdicts and following threats of dusbarrment are really concerning to me.

HOA’s are a bigger nuisance and should be banned. No ne should have a right to tell you how to run your own property.

HOAs are filled with the most vicious petty tyrants one can find.

Wait until you have my neighbor. I promise you his back yard has not been mowed/cleaned since I moved here in 2012. I’ve seen skunks, opposums, rats, snakes, etc.

Thing is, when you move into a HOA, you have signed a contract giving up certain rights. You don’t want the contract, don’t move in.

Many HOAs don’t abide by the contract.

Absolutely. Then take them to court to ensure they do. My point is simply this: HOA have a place. Not every place but they do some useful things.
I do not support the concept that this is my property and I can do as I please. That’s true but it is also true that concept has it’s limits. For example, some turn their property into a junk yard which devalues the property of others.

No, from what I have read courts will not help you with. HOAs.

That would depend upon your reseason for petitioning the court. They have no choice but to help if the claim is failure to follow the contract. Now, if you want to appeal the HOA enforcing the contract (say you want to paint your condo with poka dots), that’s a different matter.

Thats what city, township, village ordinances are for. HOAs suck. But if you select one, you do need to accept its commie rules. Our city has noxious weed ordinances, maximum grass height, and other zoning laws. Your neighbor would be warned and ticketed here without a stupid HOA.

I avoid HOA’s because of many reasons, not the heast of which is a friend in an HOA had no idea he would have to pay $16k to a neighbor two blocks away becuase their foundation cracked.

Or that my doorbell must be with a range of inches from the ground or my flag was 2 inches too large and not allowed or my Christmas decoration were illegal because they promoted a specific religion.

I guess I am a rulebreaker for not wanting my life micromanaged by nosy busybodies.
