Those rascally deer!! My grandmother had gorgeous, large, beautifully blooming blue-flowered hydrangeas on both sides of her kitchen door. The bushes covered that side of the house. Whenever I think of the grandparents’ farm, those hydrangeas are the first thing to come to mind - I loved them, so hydrangeas are a huge sentimental favorite of mine. I have yet to have a bush/blooms like she had which is disappointing ... and it’s not happening at the new house either, despite having a couple of places where I think they’d probably do well. My grandparents always had a farm/guard dog (German Shepherds) on the place so no problems with deer or other varmints, whether the 4-legged or 2-legged variety.
The small fruits trees on the place have Irish Spring soap bars dangling on strings from the branches, so the deer have been on the property & munching on them. I don’t know what fruit they are, but I doubt we’ll get very much - deer & squirrels will beat us to it. Fortunately, unlike our current abode, we are near orchards & can easily get fresh fruit :-)
My niece’s dog got ‘skunked’ big time the other night. Evidently, in the dark, she thought it was her buddy, who is a black and white cat & she pounced on ‘him’ ... whoops! not the cat! She got a full load of spray - the whole front of her chest was yellow!
My niece did her best with what she had ... with 30 minutes of bathing, she got the yellow off & the dog was ‘tolerable’ (but her bathroom still smells slightly like skunk). The dog got wet yesterday in the rain & the skunk smell was more apparent with wet fur.
The recommended mixture for removing oily skunk spray is hydrogen peroxide, baking soda & dish detergent, then dog shampoo. She only had dish detergent, apple cider vinegar, & dog shampoo. She’s going to get some peroxide to keep on hand just in case there’s a next time.

My Yellow Lab got skunked twice in two weeks’ time. The solution you recommended really does work...or at least makes them tolerable to be around!
I used Dawn dish soap that time because it was on hand. My Vet recommends that brand for cleaning small wounds and anything else your pet may enjoy rolling in. ;)
