In many cities the police will not respond to “minor” crimes anymore. I wonder if those crimes make it into a data base. Or are they treated as if they never happened?
Never happened.
If you don’t respond you can’t investigate
If you don’t investigate you can’t file a report.
If you don’t file a report it doesn’t get entered in to the NCVS
“I wonder if those crimes make it into a data base.”
What is more important is not quantities of crimes in data bases, it is the exact block location of crimes, the date and time of those crimes and the nature of those crimes.
That is actionable intelligence—and fortunately most cities these days have web sites providing it.
