What is more important is not quantities of crimes in data bases, it is the exact block location of crimes, the date and time of those crimes and the nature of those crimes.
That is actionable intelligence—and fortunately most cities these days have web sites providing it.
For example, in 2022, the most recent full year for which the FBI has released statistics, 17 percent of law-enforcement agencies didn’t report to the bureau. Among those not reporting were the New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco Police Departments.
