How to Start a Publishing Company: 7-Step Beginner’s Guide

How to Start a Publishing Company in 2023

I personally would advise against it for several reasons. One is the internet, the second is the declining number of people who read books & publications anymore. There are r, but those are the two most overriding salient reasons.

I have to agree. Paper publishing is a fast dying industry, just ask anyone who is trying to avoid the inevitable. Maybe if you have a specific niche that favors paper it could work - for example, DIY or reference books where it’s more convenient to have the printed document in hand than to have to look at a screen. But paper and postage costs are going up and one specialty publication I get had to drop from 12 issues a year to 6 to keep afloat. Another national organization just made it’s magazine an extra-cost option.

Combine the industry dynamics with lack of experience and I’m sorry but you’re going to be fighting an uphill battle. Best of luck if you decide to give it a try.
