This is for the last Congress. But it likely hasn’t changed much.

In fact, only 51 out of 530 politicians currently serving or elected to Congress went to one of the eight Ivy League schools for their first degree.

ONLY?

In terms of enrollment, Ivys make up about 0.9% of all college students.

That means the Ivys are 10 times over-represented in Congress than in enrollments.

Hmmmm, given that congresscritters are not exactly even close to the top of gubmit agencies deserving respect, that makes sense. Given what I’ve seen, I’m thinking that law, political “science”, and other like academic orientations no longer provide any assurance of competence.

It’s fairly well established that success of their graduates has little to do with the education that they provide.

It is almost entirely due to who their admissions staff admits.

Bump!

Katharina Buchholz needs to be reminded of the old saw:
“figures don’t lie, but liars use figures.”

The Ivy League colleges have been a training ground for American leaders since the beginning of the republic. I suspect that if you looked at Congress any time from Reconstruction to World War II, that percentage was higher. Keep in mind New York was the most populous state until the 1960s. Pennsylvania and Massachusetts also had far higher percentages of the U.S. population than is the case now.
