The Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif. used to put on a program like that called the Glory of Christmas. Angels would fly across the sanctuary and the three kings would come in riding on camels. It was spectacular, but overly so, complained my father, a music director at a Methodist church. He thought the program was more about show biz than worship.
The Rev. Robert Schuller, pastor of the Crystal Cathedral, retired and turned it over to his kids, who ran it into the ground. It is now a Roman Catholic house of worship.

Dr. Schuller’s kids made a mess of the church and they stiffed the providers of animals for the Christmas show. Even Schuller’s son, Robert Jr., a pastor, said there was too much family member involvement in the church’s business. But Dr. Schuller was a good man and he had a great interpretation of Christianity.

The late Dr. Robert Schuller was a great old, smiley, white-haired guy, with his "Hour of Power" TV show, and "possibility thinking" books, (even if he borrowed a wee bit from Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, and his "power of positive thinking"). I always enjoyed listening to his talks on TV, whenever I saw one.
