Chargers' Justin Herbert having season-ending finger surgery
LOS ANGELES -- Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was scheduled for surgery to repair his fractured right index finger Tuesday and was placed on injured reserve, ending his 2023 season, the team announced.
Herbert suffered the injury in Los Angeles' 24-7 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday . . .
Herbert had started 62 consecutive games, the second-longest active streak by a quarterback, behind only the Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen (84). That streak will end when the Chargers play the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, with Easton Stick starting for Los Angeles. . .
On Tuesday, he spoke with reporters about his first NFL start.
"Look, I understand North Dakota State is not the National Football League, but I'm used to winning," said Stick, who played college football for the Bison. "I only know one way."
At North Dakota State, Stick had the most wins of any quarterback in FCS history, with 49-3 record over four seasons. He finished as NDSU's career record holder in nearly every passing category, including passing yards (8,693), passing touchdowns (88) and total offense yards (11,216).
He certainly dressed like a pimp. Although, he acts and speaks like every other articulate small town Ohio guy I know. Are you old enough to remember Joe Namath in his prime? In the salary controlled NFL, he will win a Super Bowl. It would have come down to him and Lamar Jackson getting there this year had it not been for the wrist.
