Chargers' Justin Herbert having season-ending finger surgery
LOS ANGELES -- Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was scheduled for surgery to repair his fractured right index finger Tuesday and was placed on injured reserve, ending his 2023 season, the team announced.
Herbert suffered the injury in Los Angeles' 24-7 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday . . .
Herbert had started 62 consecutive games, the second-longest active streak by a quarterback, behind only the Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen (84). That streak will end when the Chargers play the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, with Easton Stick starting for Los Angeles. . .
On Tuesday, he spoke with reporters about his first NFL start.
"Look, I understand North Dakota State is not the National Football League, but I'm used to winning," said Stick, who played college football for the Bison. "I only know one way."
At North Dakota State, Stick had the most wins of any quarterback in FCS history, with 49-3 record over four seasons. He finished as NDSU's career record holder in nearly every passing category, including passing yards (8,693), passing touchdowns (88) and total offense yards (11,216).
It is technically not a stat that the record keepers keep track of.
It is unlikely either record will be broken, because very few QBs stay 4 years at one school and get to start as freshman.
Kellen's only losses were to Texas Christian (twice) and Nevada.
Easton Stick is 35 year younger than me being born on my birthday in 1995.
He got hurt on this play

Rough year for quarterbacks.
Actually last year was worse. 68 QBs started a game last year at QB. 54 have started a game this year at QB.
That would not include Easton Stick this year. He will be the 69th QB on Thursday.
Great year for some backups. Jake Browning, if he can remotely maintain his first three game pace for four more, will go from a $750,000 backup to a ten million a year potential QB1. He’s signed for peanuts again next year to hold a clipboard and watch Burrow. He’d clean up the following year.
I used to be a San Diego Charger fan but I don’t watch professional sports anymore. I don’t like to see overpaid thugs kneel against my flag.
I haven’t heard of them kneeling in years.
not that I follow nfl very much but I do like the rams and Stafford and Kupp very much...when I watched the super bowl two yrs ago my opinion of burrow was that he acted like a pimp and he would probably never ever get to a super bowl again....
I wouldn't know. I haven't watched sports ball in years.
Chargers if they win 1 of the next 4 will be lucky. Very bad yr for then, head coach is needs to go.
No more kneeling in several years
Only the women’s world cup team still needles and they can’t even force all their players to kneel anymore.
Wait, they needle? Is that sewing, or drugs?
Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
I have a long memory. Pro sports is dead to me.
Regarding the NFL, as long as Trump was in power, it was ok for the players to kneel and disrespect the flag and the military. But now that a retarded jackass Democrat is in power, the NFL just loves the military. If Trump wins, the NFL will go back to kneeling and hating on Trump, the military, and the flag.
Me too.
QBs are going to start being treated like RBs are now in the draft. Call it the Brock Purdy effect. Teams are starting to realize you don’t need to invest your 1st round pick in a franchise QB to compete. You have Purdy, DeVito with the Giants making a case for a long career, Sam Howell was leading the league in passing for awhile, Dak was a 4th rounder, Hurts Round 2, O’Connell with the Raiders. 9-8 or 10-7 will get you to the playoffs and then it’s a crapshoot when you get there. Not a lot of dominant teams anymore like in years past.
This piece of news should really set the world on fire! Inquiring minds are desperate to know: was it a middle finger?
