They need a three year limit on these contracts.

Most of these big money guys never have a great year after they sign and definitely flame out in 3-5 years. Then your stuck with them, like the Yankees with .195 hitting Stanton.

Actually, it’s usually the owners who want the longer contract. The players are concerned with the total value of the contract. The owners like to stretch the money out so their luxury tax payment is lower.

Stanton not a free agent signing. The Yankees traded for him. Gave up decent 2nd baseman Starlin Castro and took on that godawful contract. The Yankees were badly burned.
