The former President finally addressed the Seminoles' playoff exclusion Monday.
Former President Donald Trump is blaming a familiar foe for the Florida State University (FSU) Seminoles not making the College Football Playoffs — his chief political rival and fellow Florida man, Gov. Ron DeSantis.
In a post to Truth Social, Trump said “Florida State was treated very badly by the ‘Committee.'”
“They become the first Power Five team to be left out of the College Football Playoffs. Really bad lobbying effort…Lets blame DeSanctimonious!!!”
The dig is especially brutal considering outrage over FSU’s perceived snub after the team failed to make the playoffs despite a perfect season. Fans, and even those who don’t fear the spear have taken to social media since the decision over the weekend to decry FSU’s omission even as two teams without a perfect record made the cut. DeSantis was among the perturbed.
Posting to X on Sunday, DeSantis said “what we learned today is that you can go undefeated and win your conference championship game, but the College Football Playoff committee will ignore these results.” Interestingly, DeSantis has talked about Florida State football at various points during this campaign.
During a speech to a group in Prosperity, South Carolina, Ron DeSantis extolled the current performance of the Seminoles, framing it as a welcome change from years of mediocrity from the Sunshine State’s gridiron programs.
“Clemson has won in football recently. Florida, our state, has struggled in college football recently,” DeSantis complained.
“We were the top state for years and years. We’ve not had anybody compete even to make the playoff until this year,” DeSantis added, forgetting FSU’s loss in the CFB Playoffs after the 2014 season.
DeSantis has given variations of this speech before, lauding the Seminoles’ performance and excoriating years of lackluster seasons among the state’s programs before that, and forgetting that FSU made the playoff previously. “We’ve actually never had a team in the college football playoff since the playoffs started. Fast forward, rewind, when I was growing up in the ’80s and ’90s, it was like a Florida team was competing for the national title almost every year,” DeSantis recounted during an interview Wednesday on WFEA’s Morning Update.
The Governor, who played Division 1 baseball at Yale, griped early in his administration about students leaving the state to play college football elsewhere.
“I realized this my first year as Governor. I asked my staff to give me letters of congratulations for all Florida’s high school blue-chip football recruits because we’ve got great high school football in Florida. And I’m signing these letters and it’s like, ‘Dear Michael, congratulations on going to the University of Georgia. Congratulations on going to Alabama.’ And I’m like, why congratulate them for leaving our state?” DeSantis said to a crowd in Georgia this summer.
“That didn’t used to be what it was.”
What they didn't say but also took into account is that Alabama Fans are more likely to fill up a stadium for a playoff game than FSU fans.
Florida State should play Georgia in a bowl game and show us how great they are
The SEC wasn’t good this year.
Against the ACC: 4-6
Against the Big 12: 1-2
Against the Pac-12: 2-1
Auburn lost to New Mexico State.
Humpft! A headline I saw named Michigan, Washington, FSU, and Texas as the top 4.
This is the first year that I see the need for more than 4 teams. I think the four above plus Alabama and Georgia might win if there was such a tournament, but I’d give FSU considerably less chance of winning than the other 5.
So, I think leaving out FSU is the right call and I think Trump is out of line here to blame DeSantis. BTW, if FSU was in, I’d be rooting for them to win but with little hope they’d actually win.
Maybe we’ll see a Georgia-FSU matchup in the Peachbowl where I would expect Georgia to kick butt.

Watch all the way to the end.
Can they both lose?
“My 4 picks would have been Michigan, Washington, Florida State and Georgia (even though they lost the SEC championship).”

IMHO, the four should have been UM, UW, TX, and FSU.
Georgia may be the best team, but they had the chance to prove it and failed.
TX beat AL in AL. Never mind that it was week 2. AL does not belong there.
I guess the FSU QB situation did them in, but I’m not sure how fair that is to not select them based on that.
But these kind of controversies, while bitter for some in the moment, serve to build the game in the long run.
The only thing you can blame desanctomonious for is not doing the job he was elected to do.

Trump never misses an opportunity to be a jackass.
To be fair, Trump is no less a New York prick than any other NYC rich white business guy I’ve known over the years. Think George Steinbrenner times 10, and THAT is exactly what America needs to get this turned around.
That’s the public side. Privately, hearts of gold.
But Trump’s our jackass.
Aren’t you tired of being a loser? I suspect desanctomonious is.
I’m still going to vote for DJT no matter what, but I wish he wouldn’t go off on stupid tangents when he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
The CFP committee stuck to the book rather than doing the creatively smart thing, which would have been to convince Bama and FSU, and Texas and GA, to have a wild card playoff—the top six teams were too close to leave two of them out. At least it won’t happen next year.
But in the list of problems America is having, college football playoffs is down around #15,796. Trump should be fighting inflation, border invasion, and Marxist crap being pushed on everyone, and beat those drums until they break, then get three more and beat them.
I'm still rankled that Trump - as president - didn't stop the steal in 2020. He knew what was going on.
What was he thinking?
Everyone in the State of Florida knew he was running for President more than a year before your election. It is not an issue. You are ignorant.
