Comedian Matt Rife is now allegedly fighting with a popular plastic surgeon on TikTok. A plastic surgeon from Chicago, Illinois by the name of Dr. Benjamin Caughlin MD, FACS (@manyfacesofchicago) has amassed a large following on TikTok and Instagram for his education regarding a number of plastic surgery procedures and humorous videos in between. Caughlin posted a now mega viral video to the tune of Bridgit Mendler’s “Hurricane,” in which he claims to have created a “beautiful” jawline for someone only for them to get “cancelled” shortly afterwards.
In response to the video, fans of the surgeon and critics of Rife took note of the “comedian” hashtag, and assumed the video referenced Rife. In a now deleted comment, the comedian wrote “lying about medical history is illegal, just FYI.” Before Rife could delete the comment, thousands had screenshotted it.
The comedian frequently speaks about his changing appearance from his teenage years to his 20s, and has previously confirmed that he got veneers. However, he continues to deny ever having had plastic surgery, and chocks up his “glow up” to aging and working out. Even without naming names, some think that Dr. Caughlin begs to differ. The absurdity of the situation is attracting more laughs than Rife’s controversial comedy special “Natural Selection” on Netflix.
Dr. Caughlin later posted another video explaining what jawline surgery entails, and the desired results from some of his patients. Again, he declined to name Rife in this description, but the comment section cannot stop connecting the dots.
Netflixgate
A number of jokes made on the comedian’s “Natural Selection” have continued to keep his name in the public consciousness in recent weeks, and not for positive reasons. He continues to court controversy by alienating the female fanbase who arguably gave way to his rise to mainstream fame. In particular, he came under fire for opening his Netflix comedy special with a joke about domestic violence. The joke entailed a story about a restaurant hostess who had a black eye, which Rife quips she must have gotten from a man she could not cook for. The layered trivialization of domestic violence and perceived sexism have shrouded the Netflix special with criticism.
Instead of apologizing following the mass backlash he continues to receive, Rife posted an Instagram story that appeared to insult people with disabilities. The post, which was intended as a joke, was slammed for its perceived ableism. The comedian posted a photo of himself from the special, captioned “if you’ve ever been offended by a joke I’ve told–here’s a link to my official apology.” The link, labeled “tap to solve your issue”, redirects Instagram users to a listing for “special needs” helmets. This was intended to insinuate that any of his critics must have something wrong with them, and also an insult to those living with disabilities. The term “special needs” has been widely condemned by disability rights activists in recent years, and is often perceived to be offensive.
Rife continues to post clips from the special, and has not apologized for the widespread offense he appears to have sparked. Dr. Caughlin has not violated HIIPA laws, and has not confirmed or denied the jaw surgery.
For those of you in Rio Linda, Rife is a comedian who is supposed to be popular with women, because of his looks. He just had a comedy special somewhere, and he said he wanted t break away from the predominantly female audience. He had a joke about domestic violence. I saw a clip, and didn't think it was funny, but not as offensive as they made it out to be.
Oh, and instead of apologizing, he sent them to a web site that sold special needs helmets.
Says alot about where we are as a nation that this silliness is getting so much attention...
He’s a frickin’ comedian, by his own account. The doctor? Screaming for attention?
We have many other things with which to busy ourselves.
Ping
He’s quick witted and not PC
Politics is downstream of culture.
These folks would melt down if they heard Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, or Eddie Murphy...
I mean like literally melt their panties down...
