I still think Bama got away with a push-off on their winning TD against Auburn.
I heard about that, but didn’t get to see it. Heard Rick & Bubba talking about it this morning on the radio on the way to work............................
Watch the entire play and you will see that the defensive back grabbed Bond as he was trying to make his cut to the corner of the end zone. You think there was a push off; I think there was a hold. The truth is, neither of our opinions matter. The game is over and Bama won.
The boys (and now in the woke NFL girls) in stripes had a rough weekend across the board. The ACC, SEC and Big 10 crews were substandard and the NFL games were anything but smooth. The Jacksonville Houston game was an abomination for officiating. Lots of crews getting their ass kicked today I would imagine. Some may be raking leaves next weekend.
After further discussion (the phrase we are taught for replay assist but not formal review) since you as a fan also have a lot of rules knowledge it appears. Zebras are taught to when in doubt leave the flag in the belt. Judgment calls are not permitted to be reviewed at any level.
Do you think that replay should be allowed to create fouls? This has been the biggest question since the DPI blown call in New Orleans a few years back.
What would fans tolerate? A replay slows the game down and breaks momentum. As a referee, I know when there is a challenge or replay mandated review, the game is in trouble because we are asked to manage the flow as well — make it look smooth and the fan experience is considered as part of the game administration, but not at the expense of kicking a call. We are also taught to officiate the entire play. An overzealous replay official makes the game completely unmanageable. It happens.
From an officiating perspective, replay is a mixed blessing. But the tech is so good. Replay is only allowed to get involved if there is a line or a clock involved. There are times any honest white hat would tell you it would be so nice to tell replay have a look — you get a giant human being step in front of you at the split second that the moment of truth relative to a foul occurs. I am of the opinion if you have the tech use it. There are shall we say creative ways to do it. The headsets we wear are sometimes like listening to Kennedy ATC at rush hour. You have the RO in the stadium.
, the command center, and a communicator all in your ear. Sorting it out takes time.
White hats know the ultimate untenable position is trying to get it right with the TV time pressures breathing down your back.
As a fan, what would you like to see?
Pushing off is not illegal for Alabama. Sorry.
