Right. I understand that. My interest is specific to this particular production called ‘A Fight Pilots Story’. I’d like to connect with Freepers and discuss getting this out in the open so everyone can enjoy it. Its spectacularly done and now I have it in digital format.
thank you
three of my great uncles were Army Air Force pilots
one (C-47) was strafed over Italy
he later got shot down in the English Channel on D-Day
he said hitting the water was like hitting a concrete parking lot-but the only injury was his navigator getting a gash on the forehead, all the crew were rescued
after the war he helped evacuate the hospitals in Europe
lived to be 106 years old
another great uncle loved to fly so much that he became a crop duster after the war...his wife made him give that up after he got tangled in some wire
You’re the only one to get it right so far. A lot of people think it was United States Army Air Force, but it was Air Forces, plural.
Me: “United States Army AIR FORCE. 1941-1947”
You: “But ...”
No buts.
Federal archives use Army Air Force even for Air Corps records.
Museums are named 1st Air Force, Eighth Air Force.
My husband father was a pilot in the 8th army air force and flew over 30 missions over Europe in WWII. We are always interested in any footage of that time.
“So it may be symatics, but if they are trying to be factual looking for a group that does this, they might need to understand when things actually became what they are looking for.”
Exactly what I did! “United States Army AIR FORCE. 1941-1947” Interesting that you listed AAC and AF but omitted AAFA!
I grew up with that stuff being born in 1940. Always to this day I am fascinated with the WW2 air war.
Thanks for all your help, I know you’re a military historian so I pinged you.
My pleasure
US Army Air Force sometimes called US Army Air Corps 1941-1947 when it became US Air Force. My dad served in the USAAF throughout the war and afterwards in the USAF. Me - 1968-76
You are correct 😊!
I have a friend Michael Mikkelson who is researching WWII aircraft units for a book or possible TV series. He has thousands of memorabilia pieces from WWII bombers he has acquired . He is also on some groups of facebook. You can look him up there or let me know and i’ll get he email for you
