If you want to stop mice/rats from coming through a hole, stuff it with steel wool.

When they try to chew it it breaks off and sticks into their cheeks and gums. Evidently it is very painful to them.

I did that and haven't had a problem since.

We have only had the one come into the house but I will put some where the drainpipe goes through the floor. I don’t want to relive that experience.

that was my grandfather’s solution back in the 50s. seemed to work for roaches also.
