Jets legend Joe Namath is akin to disgraced Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, covering up sexual abuse at his facility, according to court papers filed by a man who says he was assaulted there 51 years ago.
Philip Lyle Smith, 64, recently told The Post about his horrific ordeal at a Joe Namath Instructional Football Camp, speaking publicly for the first time about claims he detailed as “John Doe’’ in an ongoing Brooklyn lawsuit.
Smith said his alleged sexual predator was well-known Brooklyn Poly Prep Country Club football coach Philip Foglietta, later revealed to be a serial pedophile who abused scores of students at the tony school.
Foglietta, who died in 1998, was allegedly allowed to repeatedly sexually attack Smith at the camp starting when the boy was just 12, said the married Florida real-estate broker in court papers — claiming to The Post that Namath and other lawsuit defendants were “enablers and the pedophile protectors.”
“Back in those days, Joe Namath was my idol,’’ Smith told The Post. “And he went from my hero to a zero in my life.’’
Smith alleged that Namath’s negligence is analogous to that of the late Paterno, who was accused of knowing that trusted assistant Jerry Sandusky had sexually abused young boys.
“This case is equally about the many adults in positions of power at the [camp] including Joe Namath and [ex-Jets defensive back and camp partner John] Dockery, who were aware of, tolerated and covered up known sexual abuse at the camp, abuse that had a lasting effect on Doe,’’ according to allegations in amended court papers filed in 2021.
Smith’s lawsuit claims that while Foglietta groomed and abused him, he received special perks at the camp, including involving the Jets Hall of Famer.

That’s when my son did Boy Scouts, my wife absolutely insisted I always went on his weekend campouts. Probably a wise thing.

In the lawsuit they only allege that Joe SHOULD have known and SHOULD have intervened.
I not only read the article, but also looked at the photos. The alleged perp had big man boobs. The alleged victim is pimping his digs as an adult.

Regarding Flip Wilson: he left Las Vegas show life to be a simple man in an ordinary job, raising his 4 children and putting them through college. He returned to the circuit when 52, but died within the year. He was a good man.
I do NOT know what it is with some people. You would THINK the admonition of Christ to leave the little ones alone would be good enough, but these evil idiots just have to have their boy play.
Death in the ocean by millstone is actually appropriate for these knuckleheads, but if that’s too expensive, then a simple public hanging will suffice.
I remember back when Namath played, folks used to say there were three gay quarterbacks (I don’t think gay was the actual word used back then) in the NFL. I never figured out who the third one was.

My take on Cosby was, some ladies were looking for a payday, for as my Wife says often about these subjects, Women invariably tell their friends they were raped, when friends know it was consensual. It is an attempt to pretend they are mostly chaste, or covering up for being being drunk....as we all know, when drunk both sexes do things they don’t normally do, and regret it.
Without him cutting a deal to pay off complaints in a civil suit, that he had to use certain words and take responsibility, IN CONJUNCTION with paying money and the ones taking the payoff, could not take it to another court, and his words could not be used against him. The DA and trial judges broke rules, opening the gates for others to look for a payday, and be famous. Sorry, but people love the fame and are not ashamed of it at all.
Without the throwing out of what was once a hard set rule to get Mr Cosby, he isn’t convicted. The world wouldn’t be calling him a rapist. Where does somebody get their reputation back? Women go to a mans home or room, late at night from the Playboy club, or just a bar, they have been drinking, THEY KNOW they are going to have sex.
Nothing tees me off worse that adults pretending that women going to a mans room in the dark of night, aren’t aware that they are likely to have sex???? I guess liars is what you call them.
