Dan Aykroyd will forever be known as a “Ghostbuster.”
The “Saturday Night Live” alum created plenty of memorable characters during his sketch TV days, but the 1984 sci-fi comedy remains his calling card for many.
Some insist his 1980 film “The Blues Brothers” remains his finest hour as a comic actor.
The musical comedy featured bravura performances from Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Ray Charles and more.
The film cemented Aykroyd’s on-screen bromance with fellow “SNL” standout John Belushi and became a cult classic.
Aykroyd told podcaster Adam Carolla some behind-the-scenes footnotes from the film.

And yeah, it would not be made today.
Liked him in My Girl as well.
Love BB but Coneheads is my favorite Aykroyd movie.
Just watched it recently. A classic. Loved the chase scenes and dozens of wrecked police cars. And Cab Calloway.
“I doubt if A Christmas Story would be made today, especially the end when they eat at the Chinese restaurant. Fa rah rah rah rah”
Traditional Christmas, two-parent family, stay at home mom, guns, bully getting beat up... Yep you are right.
Imagine the plot if liberals made the Blues Brothers today.
It would be stories of oppression and white supremacy
Animal House is another Belushi gem that couldn’t be made today.
Hey! I liked Dr Detroit! But NOT the dreadful Caddyshack II.
For those that are interested, in the “street fair” scene with the John Lee Hooker song, in this video, they show signs with the address on them. If you look up that address in google maps and go to street view, you’ll notice the area has been gentrified mightily. Check out the google maps link below.

Adam Sandler came out of SNL and had a phenomenal career both as an actor and director.
He went back to SNL for a reunion and sang “I was fired!!!”
Cab Calloway stole that movie…
Dan was just Belushi’s straight man in Blues Brothers. I thought his performance in Neighbor’s was better.
Some of the skits from SNL are still funny today.
Jane you ignorant slut.
We’re just wide and crazy guys.
It’s a BAG of BROKEN GLASS.
We are from France.
Blues Brothers should have had more John Lee Hooker.
Girl From Ipanema!
“We’re on a Mission from God!”
.
Totally a Top Ten !
how many cars did they wreck? I lost count!
********
According to IMDB, 103 cars were destroyed in “The blues Brothers”.
Also, according to IMDB, in the movie “Blues Brothers 2000’ they deliberately destroyed one more than they did in the first movie.
Ouch
