I recently had a relative gushing about the openly gay pastor at her church, as if this was some kind of virtue and somehow made him extra-holy.
I simply can’t understand the outright homosexual worship taking place in this country right now.
I agree it's hard to understand. But the apostle Paul taught us about it in Romans 1. God lets us experience sin to wake us up to coming back to believing in Him. I'm not saying be pro-sin (including homosexuality). I'm saying the more we see it or are tempted by it ourselves, and certainly the more we experience the natural consequences of sin, the more it should be a wake up call to turn back to him. Read the verses below beginning with verse 16, which seems to start off right (not ashamed of the gospel). Yet watch how people turn away from believing He exists, so God let them be suspect to their heterosexual sin (verse 24), hoping that would wake them up. When it didn't God let them be susceptible to homo sin (verse 26). If that doesn't wake people up, God has in mind even more sin like normalizing murder (IMHO it already happens with abortion). Those are in the verses after the ones I posted below.
Romans 1:16-27 (NIV): 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[e] just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”[f]
God’s Wrath Against Sinful Humanity 18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
