WWII gets to be the culprit. Demographic change began in Oakland starting with the war when the Navy brought in workers for its ammunition depot. That set in motion a demographic change that led to Oakland today.
The 1940 census shows Oakland to be 95.3% “white”. 2.8% “negro”. 1.9% “other”. By 1990 the city was 32.5% white, 43.9% black, 23.6% other.
The Left routine says “demographics is destiny” but when anyone else agrees it’s “racism”. Either way the numbers are what they are, and so is once pleasant Oakland.
