MICHIGAN REGENTS HAVE DISCUSSED LEAVING THE BIG TEN

Michigan Wolverines, SEC or ACC school? Sounds insane, right?

Turns out it may not be as crazy as it sounds, if a report from Sports Illustrated’s Michael Rosenberg is to be believed.

Rosenberg reported that the University of Michigan’s board of regents met last week to discuss the possibility of leaving the Big Ten conference entirely. The regents were, as of last week, concerned the conference commissioner Tony Petitti might suspend head coach Jim Harbaugh over the Connor Stalions scandal without due process.

And then Petitti suspended Jim Harbaugh because of the sign stealing scandal without due process.

OutKick’s Trey Wallace also reported on Friday that outside athletic directors have expressed similar concerns. Specifically mentioning that the conference’s decision making process has been

“They (Michigan) know that the Big Ten has rushed this whole situation,” a Power-5 AD told Wallace. “And, they’re using it to their advantage, especially with the NCAA continuing to dig. For the conference to decide on a punishment without a full investigation completed has caused other schools administrators around college football to take notice. The problem for Tony (Petitti) is that he’s setting a pretty bad precedent, while only being on the job for not even a year.

LOL! No. Ohio State would stay put and enjoy Michigan’s demise once they left the B1G.

I’m old enough to remember when the big 10 was in a tight region. From Ohio out to around Iowa, from the Ohio river up to Canada…ehhh?

Now it’s means nothing . Big 10 is literally almost everywhere..west to east coast. If Michigan drops they might replace them with a school from Alaska or Puerto Rico.

“There’s no way in hell the SEC would accept them.”

With Texas at the SEC table, the SEC will welcome Michigan and a west coast team and make the SEC a national conference.

Only the SEC would accept this cheating rabble.

Perhaps they can go to the Pac8, which would then just need to draw in 5 more schools. Maybe Memphis, Boise State, Air Force to start with some of the bigger names out there.

It'll never happen, but a geographical conference re-alignment would be tremendous.

The SEC has stayed within the footprint of states that contributed to the Cause.

Big XII already has W Virginia and Cincinnati in the same area. Iowa State (Ames) is closer than Lincoln by 3 hours and about the same distance as Minnesota. KU and K-State are about the same as Lincoln.

And no far west coast teams like USC/UCLA/UO and UW. Arizona and Utah teams are marginally closer.

Not that it would EVER happen. The money is just too great to change dance partners at this point.

College Football is essentially an NFL Farm system funded by the Universities.

The universities don’t really fund any major conference football. Those days are long gone. It’s all self generated funds from media and ticket sales, plus donors - both private and corporate.

The revenue streams from the major sports (football and Men’s BB) actually fund the minor (and women’s) sports.

Most of the Pac-12 schools are leaving. It’s essentially Dead Conference Walking.

Conferences are being radically realigned. I’m sure there are two or three conferences that would welcome the Wolverines.

That’s why, come next year, the Big Ten will include the top 3 TV markets.

Conferences will go the way of The Dodo Bird.

Eventually the big schools will break away and form their own organization and negotiate the TV contracts.

Which would finally validate the last line of tehir fight song:

“Champions of the West.”

CAn you imagine a traditional Rose Bowl with USC or UCLA playing Michigan — and Michigan is the HOME team?

Michigan-Minnesota = “Battle for the Little Brown Jug.”
Michigan-Michigan State - I don’t recall a name for it but it is a strong rivalry.

Other rivalries have gone away because teams joined other conferences.

I think if Michigan joined the SEC, they’d suspend Harbaugh too.

Get rid of college sports entirely.
Bread and circuses for the masses.
The NIL thing is the final action in removing college sports from being non commercial

Sounds like a confession that the Wolverines got caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
