ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Less than 24 hours before Michigan football kicks off against Penn State, the Big Ten has suspended Jim Harbaugh as part of the ongoing the sign-stealing case.
The suspension is for the rest of the regular season and includes only games, not practices. Michigan is expected to fight this decision in an attempt to relieve Harbaugh of punishment until the NCAA investigation is complete.
Here is the full statement from the Big Ten:
The Big Ten Conference announced today that the University of Michigan has been found in violation of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy for conducting an impermissible, in-person scouting operation over multiple years, resulting in an unfair competitive advantage that compromised the integrity of competition.Big Ten Conference Agreement 10.01 states in part that “The Big Ten Conference expects all contests involving a member institution to be conducted without compromise to any fundamental element of sportsmanship. Such fundamental elements include integrity of the competition, civility toward all, and respect, particularly toward opponents and officials.”
As a penalty imposed on the institution, the University football team must compete without its Head Football Coach for the games remaining in the 2023 regular-season, effective immediately. This disciplinary action shall not preclude the University or its football team from having its Head Football Coach attend practices or other football team activities other than the game activities to which it applies. For clarity, the Head Football Coach shall not be present at the game venue on the dates of the games to which this disciplinary action applies.
The Big Ten Conference will have no additional comment at this time.

It’s outrageous they did this on the anniversary of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald!
Nothing is sacred anymore!
It’s amazing how many players have admitted that their team did this.
It’s also the Marine Corps birthday!
And the observed day for Veteran’s Day!
You’re right, nothing is sacred anymore.
and the day after the 100th anniversary of the Beer Hall Putzh.
Gotta think too much success is working here.
Harbaugh used the transfer process to recruit a virtually professional offensive and defensive line.
His teams are dominating traditional rivals, spoiling the competitive traditions that make the Big 10 competitive and fun for fans.
Its a bad situation and an “investigation” isn’t going to fix it.
I have no idea whether Harbaugh was “sign-stealing”, which isn’t against NCAA rules. The only evidence is the presence of UofM minions on the near-sideline seats at opponents games. In person scouting is against the rules, but an odd accusation to make in the middle of a successful season.
they’ll do anything to get Ohio State into the playoffs...
Not Jim Harbaugh or Michigan fan, but he can still watch at home and phone in to the coaches on the sidelines and in the booth.
OMG, too funny! Thanks for posting!
Slap on the wrist. Coordinators pretty much run the game making play calls, etc. By the time the NCAA makes its decision next year, Jimbo will be long gone to the NFL. Hopefully Penn State tomorrow and then later on Ohio State will take UM down and end any chance of them making the playoffs.
Maybe he will be at the Ohio State-Michigan State game tomorrow stealing signals.
College football is professional now. It is not students who play football. It is professional players who are given scholarships to “pretend” they are students.
A worse punishment would be to make him listen of the color analyst the whole game. He can’t change the channel or mute the audio. Worse than a death penalty.
If anything, it’ll serve to fire up his team tomorrow.
Sad but true.
Gone are the days when college football was completely different than the NFL. You would see teams running the Wishbone and all other different kinds of formations.
Now every team looks the same.
“they’ll do anything to get Ohio State into the playoffs...”
Right, Ohio State needs help. Third most appearances in the playoffs with four. Behind only AL and Clemson that have six. How many does Michigan have?
It’s like nobody can keep a secret anymore.
Sign stealing is a fake “crime”.
Anyone with a brain can see a sign and then watch the play. Put 2 and 2 together.
Geez, sports is worse than politics.
Jim Harbaugh suspended on the same day ‘Home Alone’ premiered in 1990?
Looks like he’s taking tips from Kevin McCallister on how to dodge the opposition!
