An Oregon man’s dogged search for the truth has left him nearly $1.4 million richer.
Joshua Smith was forlorn when his feline sidekick, Frank, mysteriously disappeared.
But Smith sported a Cheshire cat smile this week after a Multnomah County Circuit Court jury deliberated less than two hours before awarding him $1.375 million for the loss of his 3-year-old tabby, oregonlive.com reported.
Smith had previously sued, claiming his landlord had “catnapped” the furball.
“The jury’s message should be loud and clear to landlords,” said purr-suasive attorney Michael Fuller, who won the case. “You need to respect the rights of tenants, especially when it comes to pets.”

Cat was microchipped and he, either, didn't check or care.
Cat is back with his original owners.
Back in the day, this case would have never made it to court.
I would have said, then, "No way this award will be upheld."
Now...Oregon...🙄
This is why they should string up “juries” once the trial is over.
No, actually it did not.
The manager was in error.
But even if that was correct you do not go into people's homes and steal their pets.
You send them a notice that they have violated the terms of the lease and then you give them a set period of time that they have to remedy that violation.
I certainly hope you are not a landlord because if you try to act on your notions you are going to be ending up in court as the defendant.
Objectively speaking, no pet is worth that much money unless its an animal raised to compete in certain shows or exibits.
Such as with a Race Horse. Individualy speaking, most would consider their pets to be “priceless”.
Lighten up!
You don't have bigger things to worry about?
"His lease said no pets. No, actually it did not. The manager was in error."
Is this "error" in the story and I missed it?
I didn't say that I agreed with the landlord taking the cat, just that this case is absolutely ridiculous and not worth a jury award of $1.4,000,000. Oh and the cat is back with it's actual owners.
May not be too much money. I just spent $55 on food for DaisyJane, and that’s at Chewy.com’s discount prices.
If anyone messes with her, I’m armed and dangerous. Most cat moms are. At least armed with long nails and maybe shovels and baseball bats.
He didn’t steal the cat! The landlord did, though.
You obviously don’t have pets or cherish yours.
Oregon juries is one of the reasons why Oregon can’t have nice things
The cat ended up in his possession. It had original owners who cared enough for it to microchip it and yet you claim he didn’t steal it. Well you can’t ask the cat. So either the original owners gave him the cat which they apparently didn’t or he took it. If he took it that’s stealing.
Just laziness, for not proofreading.😁
A golden oldie meme
The message is loud and clear: Your a fool to won rental property is Oregon.
